ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Jun 13, 2008 Sampled at GBF 2008. Dark copper with a beige head. Chocolate, fudge, some burnt sugar, and earthy and herbal hops in the aroma. Slightly sweet initially, but with a dry finish and moderate bitterness. SSSteve (2047), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 8, 2008 a dark pour, almost black, with ruby highlights. a large creamy tan head. very sweet caramel and milk chocolate aroma. flavor is roasty and lightly smoky. some beef jerky and chocolate. creamy texture with low carbonation. still has a slight metallic tinge, as do all the beers i’ve tried from bernard, but this one tastes pretty good. hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Jun 6, 2008 Black with a beige head. Loved this! Aroma of dust, malt and dates. Wonderful sweet caramel taste with gooseberry sourness, espresso, ash and preserved plums. Some bitterness (just enough in fact). Excellent. armando629 (954), Budapest, Hungary Jun 3, 2008 Updated: Jun 4, 2008Dark brown body, small head what diminishes quickly. Roasted malt aroma and taste, avarage body. Not bad, but not my dunkel style Izio (33), Germany Jun 2, 2008 Smoked, Roasted, creamy and light brown head, good head lacing, some yeast on the bottom, black color, Average/long after taste, Light to medium Body, Watery, Soft carbonation. berkshirejohn (1767), Bracknell, Berkshire, England May 27, 2008 50cl swing-top bottle from Tesco. Black with a reddish tint and a thick cream head; fruity, malty, caramel aroma; spritz feel in the mouth with lots of burnt caramel flavour, some nuts and fruits as well, but the burnt sugar dominates; there is some coffee and chocolate on the finish, but again this is overcome by burnt sugar leaving a dry ending. This is certainly an assertive beer. EFC1878 (291), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England May 27, 2008 Updated: Jan 4, 2009Very pleasant Dunkel. Surprising initial smoothness for the style which gives way to a nice dryness in the finish with hints of chocolate and a coffee bitterness. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA May 23, 2008 Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse, 500 ml swing top bottle. Very dark ruby red pour with a quickly fading dark khaki colored head. Slightly sweet aroma with hints of syrup and caramel. Flavor is similarly sweet with some nuttiness, caramel and a bit of molasses and licorice to round it out. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Best of the three Bernards I purchased.
