It’s a traditional unpasteurised beer which is unique in its harmony of fullness and bitterness, rich foam, sparkling transparency and striking flavour.

Editor’s note: Sold as Bernard Lager in Norway.

Bernard Lager bought in Norway. Hoppy spicy aroma when poured but the aroma quickly vanishes. Not a very lasting head, surprisingly for a czech pilsener, but the appearance is nicely golden. The taste is correct for a czech pilsner but one dimensional. I am missing some of the caramel sweetness from long boils that one can find in this type of beer. Average, just above, but far from fantastic. Wish I could have tried the stronger version, I bet it would be a little bit more special.

0.5l bottle. Pours a clear pale golden body with lots of microscopic white floaters and a quickly fading white top. Actually so quickly fading that I would say no head. Aroma is mildly fruity with notes of peach, grains and dry hops. Light bodied, texture is oily and carbonation is medium+. In the taste I get more sweet peachy flavors making this kinda sweet and fruity. It’s not until the end that a wave of grassy bitterness comes flushing over the sweet peachy initializing flavor, and the bitterness lasts for quite a while. Absolutely acceptable this little Czech.

Bernard Lager. Bottle (50cl). Fingerthick offwhite head, quickly diminishing. Clear, golden yellow colour. Aroma of sweet hay, corn. Nicely balanced taste - a bit on the sweet side. Medium carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel, light without being overly watery. Mildly bitter finish. OK lager.

Medium amber body with a tiny white head that disappears really fast, no lacing. Nice floral aroma, saaz hops? The taste has some sweetness, but is dominated by the medium bitter finish. Medium body, average carbonation. [50 cl bottle, sold as Bernard lager at REMA 1000, Helsfyr, Oslo. Had it in my garden: spring has finally come to Norway!]

Tökéletesen áttetsző arany szín, hófehér, ám egészen gyorsan leapadó hófehér kemény habbal. Illata édeskés: malátás, szalmás és kicsit mézes. Íze is először malátásan édeskés, majd természetesen megjelennek a várt komlós keserű ízek, ám lecsengése már keserédes, utóíze pedig édeskés, malátás. Közepesen testes, kellemesen szénsavas, könnyű, megbízható pilzeni, amit jól esik legurítani 1-1 fárasztó nap után, amúgy semmi különös.

500 ml bottle. Sparkling pale copper colour. Crystal clear. Fizzy. Head falls down quickly leaving no head at all. Heavy on the diacetyl and floral hops. Crisp hoppy bite. Quite sharp bitterness that balances the otherwise rich malty body. Refreshing beer, but a little like a caricature when it comes to the mix of hops and diacetyl.

Bottle. Golden clear with a white head. Smells of dryness and some hops and the fruityness and malts you always expect from this region. Taste is dry with some caramell and malts. The finish is very good. Alot of hop flavor. Not an extreme beer in any way, but i like it as a czeck style lager.
