3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, - JUL 16, 2003
A bit dull looking, fruity grapeskins in the aroma, aswell as some raisins, coconut, and some subtle toffee and chocolate. Nice hoppy and bitterish finish. Not bad (ChelmsfordBF 03')
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 6, 2010
Golden-brown colour. Nice lace. Toasty aroma with light chocolate accents. Some toasty light acidity late and vague sugars. Not a porter and kind of lame even for a brown ale.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Beershine (4710) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - SEP 10, 2010
Cask @ The Raven, Bath (coastal beer festival). Dark auburn/copper with thick head. Not a porter look, but still a nice color! Rich aroma is toasted malt. Balanced but has some blonde/unfinished wood flavors that are a little out of place. Juicy body. Not like any porter I’ve ever had, but on its own is ok. Nice but husky toasted malt. Apples and other fruits make it seem sweet, almost to the point of being cloying. I would call his a nice malty bitter, but definitely not a porter.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 downender (4380) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - MAY 18, 2010
Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 18/05/10 at 4.8% ABV. Dark, reddish brown with a decent, lacy off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits and coffee with a hint of grassy hop. Flavour began with some caramel, before more fruit, some chocolate powder and a dryish finish. Very good.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 maeib (6618) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - MAY 20, 2004
Cask conditioned Malt Shovel Northampton no sparkler. A muddy brown appearance with an off white head and reasonable lacing. The aroma is malty and has some hints of chocolate. There is also chocolate in the taste as well as heavy fruit.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - AUG 7, 2003
Gravity Cask, Chelmsford Beer Festival. Soft creamy texture with dry roasty bits. Coconut is the interesting flavour. Winey porter aroma.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nuffield (3087) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUL 16, 2003
Lightish, chestnut-ruby color with yellow edges and some nice head. An unexpected hop profile in the aroma, leading to some bitterness after a flash of fresh purple grape skins like my dad used to grow in our backyard. A bit acidic. Later, some interesting flavors, like a bit of coconut and milk chocolate (a Mounds candy bar). Soft body. An adequate porter. (gravity cask at 2003 Chelmsford Beer Festival)
