One thing that all mediocre IPAís have in common is the basic generic description/history behind the IPA. Unfortunatly the beer is just as creative as the description. Generic and boring. However i wouldnt turn one down if offered. A decent brew compared to some others.

India Pale Ale--1998 12 oz. Bottle. 4.20% ABV. 50 IBUís. (3.5 / 5.0) Galena & Cascade Hops. Light clear yellow golden color. Rich floral earthy hop front. (3.0 / 5.0) Clear light pilsner golden color. Prominent mild bitter hop front. Mild malt body minus intense sweet maltiness of some West Coast IPAís. Distinct bitter hop spice end. Hoppy IPilsA. (2.0 / 5.0) as an IPA. Sampled 9/2/2000. India Pale Ale--2003 22 oz. Bottle. 4.20% ABV. (3.0 / 5.0) Clear bright thin golden color. Creamy white mild lace head. Floral mild Cascade hop front. APPEARANCE: Pours a cloudy (including particulates) gold/orange color with a very small white head. No lacing. AROMA: Light aroma of citrus, apricots and yeast. I get hint of a smell that reminds of the Chinese dish orange chicken. FLAVOR: Earthy mineral water, dry crackers and yeast. There are also some stale tea flavors. MOUTHFEEL: Light bodied beer with a watery texture. Finishes a bit dry. Very little carbonation. DRINKABILITY: This does not taste like an IPA to me. There is very little hops and malt flavors. I think this is the worst beer I have had in awhile. NOTES: BBCSD-0908-PatM

Got this from the bargain bin at Sun Devil, probably because itís retired. I have no idea how old it was, but it didnít taste old. Golden pour with a bit of a foamy white head. Very light hop aroma, and a touch of malt. Similar very light flavor. Somewhat thin on the palate. A disappointing IPA.

Had this beer on 5/13/1998. Color is a bright gold, carbonation is somewhat low as well as the head. A light sour malt smell can be detected off the top of the glass. Taste is crisp and bitter, starting off with a light body then goes down crisp and prickly. The finish is very bitter with only the slightest touch of hop flavor, but there is something there that I donít think should be and that is a sour taste similar to a White. It would be better if it had more body, hop flavor and no sour taste.

Bottled. Yellow colour, small white head. Aroma is big fruity aroma with some hints of wood and vanilla. Flavour is mainly hoppy along with some caramel. Quite watery IPA in my opinion.

Bottled. Pale golden, average head. Evident perfumy grapefruit aroma. Sweet with notes of vanilla and paper, overpowered by grapefruit. Medium bodied and fairly light bodied. Medium bitterness. A light, rather well balanced ale.

Paleish yellow color, small white head. Bready, hoppy and yeasty aroma. Not very malty, more in the hoppy side. Empty, boring, Cascade-hoppy flavor. One-dimensional, APA -like.

Clear pure gold color with white head. Sharp hop aroma of grapefruit mostly. I didnít detect any malt in the aroma. Refreshing flavor of both hop flavor and hop bitterness. The taste is rounded out by a nice lightly roasted malt flavor. Grantís seems to create a really fresh, just picked off the farm, flavor. Although this is a bit of a lightweight IPA as far as gravity and body. The top notch flavor sure makes up for that fact. Nice easy drinking IPA.

"The only properly hopped beer in America"??? Uh, sure. I forgot who sent this to me, I think Joe did in beer swap 1.0. It pours out like a clouded bottle of budweiser without a head at all. The smell is putrid and weak, no hop notes, no grass, no pine, no grapefruit, just earth. Taste is weak and watered down. Who knows why this brewery is retired, but there may be a good reason for it. Nothing like anything I have had from the PNW, and thats a bad thing.
