4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 italarican (1053) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 1, 2009
Purely from memory. Pours a medium dark brown. Tastes of roasted malts, cocoa, and perhaps smoked almonds. Slightly thin but a smooth palate. Nostalgia may be talking here, but the name just about suits it.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ughsmash (6723) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 16, 2008
Bottled. Poured clear, medium-deep garnety brown with a short, well-formed cap of tan head. The aroma picked up sweeter (and somewhat degraded) caramel and chocolate notes with faint smoke and herbal accents. The flavor held up remarkably well with roasted semi-sweet chocolate initially, followed by a full dose of coffee and smoked woody notes.. tasty, complex, and intriguing, which is impressive considering the low gravity and age. A tad shy of medium-bodied on the palate and very, very dry.. grainy smoked wood sticks to the edges and there was a nice moderate level of roast throughout. This was a lovely beer that I wish was still available.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 4xDamage (1) - USA - JAN 31, 2008 does not count
I had this beer during the summer of 2001 while on vacation in St. George, Florida. I was drinking a lot of Rolling Rock and Guinness at the time. When I had this, it was the most perfect drink I had ever consumed - rich body with the definite aroma of chocolate and coffee.
Where, oh where did my Perfect Porter go?
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 RSRIZZO (1821) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - DEC 2, 2007
Had this beer on 6/14/1999. Color is a deep black with good carbonation and a nice head. Aroma is rich with the scent of darkly roasted malt. Taste is deeply roasted and lightly bitter. It starts off with a rich medium body that goes down with a robust roasted flavor. The finish is a deeply roasted malt flavor backed with a good strong bitterness. Overall it’s a very good, well rounded and richly roasted Porter.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAY 18, 2007
UPDATED: JUN 5, 2007 First tried this beer at Jax in Downtown Orlando, and later found it at Whole Foods. Sorry to say that both Jax and GPP have gone by the wayside. Coffee, chocolate, smoke, and dark roasted malt shined. Very complex and layered. Enjoyed a good dozen of these over time and each one revealed something different. An excellent Porter....one of my all-time favorites. Please bring it back!
