COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A powerful dark lager brewed with German Pilsner and Vienna malts, as well as traditional Smoked malt from Bamberg. Long, cold storage (lagering) gives this beer a rich, smooth character.

Smoked malts dominate this German style beer. My palate clung to the smoked malts over any bock like qualities. Freshness of the keg and meeting the brewer @ EB&B on a warm Spring day positively influenced the overall rating as well.

Draft. Pours golden orange with a white head. Light smoky aroma with some malty sweetness. The flavor has sweet malts, smoke, and a bit of a ropey/burlap note that I like. Nice.

Growler, from brewery. Pours a slightly hazy orangish copper body under a small fizzy off-white head that disappeared pretty quickly. The nose is just lightly smoky, not as much as I like in my Smoked beers, but still fairly prominent. Some sweet toasted malt and cereal grains below. The flavor is much the same as the aroma, the smoke is light to moderate to me, yet I could see the average customer here might think it pretty radical. It’s quite clean, no off flavors at all noted. A little on the sweeter side for me, especially on the finish, which I have more of a problem with than the lack of smoke. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a fairly thick texture and moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Overall, this wasn’t bad, but didn’t quite feed my Smoked appetite.
