COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
Based on an old English recipe, this oaky coloured beer is blended with three types of hops to give you that rich and full taste you deserve.
Back when men were men and England was littered with Anglo-Saxons staking their claims to chunks of the British countryside, this site up on the ridgeway above The Hendreds, became the focus of much attention. Many have speculated as to the Knob’s actual significance. Was it a burial ground, a religious site or a battlefield? We prefer the suggestion that it was a ’moot’, or meeting point where people would come together to resolve the issues of the day. Thankfully things have moved on since those days and we’re now able to get together in altogether more relaxed surroundings and iron out our problems over a few beers. So, here’s to problem solving!

Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury Beer Fest ’08. Gold amber with white head. This didn’t clear until the Saturday of the festival, it is a light, thinnish beer with an underlying mushroomy, tea like flavour in a malty bitter. There is an orange tasting hop note on the finish, but the whole thing doesn’t quite feel like the complete article.

500ml bottle. Clear orangey amber colour with thin white head. Aroma has mandarin, caramel, dried fruit with a note of cooked eggs. Taste is almost as neutral as water, holds just a slight sweetness. Intensity has only a lasting bitter finish.

Bottle 500ml. @ chriso.

Clear medium amber orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, dried fruit. Flavour is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, caramel, shoe polish - smoke notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110501]

500ml bottle (thanks to fonefan), drunk on 1 May 2011. Amber colour. Moderate off-white head. Excellent condition. Slightly orangey aroma. Also citrus in the flavour - more lemon than orange here. Clean on the palate. Perfectly drinkable but not very exciting. Standard bitters rarely seem that impressive when bottled. Flagged for re-rate from cask.

Bottle at home ... copper ... thin white head ... sweet fruity toffee malt ... light smokey roast malt ... little toffee malt ... juicy frutis ... little plum ... a decent but unexciting bitter.

On gravity at Swindon Beer Festival, 29/10/09. Amber with next to no head. Savoury, biscuit malts, some fruit and a decent bitter finish. Ok.

[500ml bottle-conditioned from Millets Farm Shop, Frilford, Oxfordshire] Amber, slight white head, moderate fizz. Bland, sweet, cardboardy malt with some biscuit and a little bitterness in the aftertaste. Would probably make a reasonable session ale in cask, but doesn’t really work in the bottle. c6

Cask, Gravity at Banbury Beer Festival, Oxon, 08-05-09 Pours amber with thin white head. Aroma was a bit malty and plain. Taste was also malty but there was a hoppiness detected, not overly bitter or sweet even. Could have done with a little more hops. I sort of drank this and quickly forgot about it.
