Tap. Pours clear brown with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is stone fruit, dates, and toast malt. Flavor is toast and biscuit malt, dates, stone fruit, light earthy hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Bière dégustée sur la terrasse du restaurant In Tspinnekopke en accompagnement d’une carbonnade flamande au lambic. La bière elle-même est une bière abbatiale brune, plutôt sucrée, aux parfums de prune, d’un alcool présent et de fruits confits. Là où celle-ci se distingue de toutes ses cousines (j’ai personnellement l’impression d’avoir fait les tour des bières brunes d’abbaye) réside dans son concubinage avec cette carbonnade au lambic. La légère acidité qui réside dans la sauce de mon plat est plus que parfaitement balancée par le sucre résiduel présent dans la bière. Celle-ci agit de manière complémentaire à la sauce en lui ajoutant une dimension fruitée, une rondeur et une profondeur que l’on aurait possiblement retrouvé si cette même sauce avait connu un ajout de porto lors de sa concoction. Cette bière n’étant que disponible dans ce restaurant, elle en vaut le détour pour quiconque cherche un appariement bière/plat. Je m’incline devant cette parfaite complémentarité!

Clear reddish brown beer, small aery irregular beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of dried fruits, orange peel, bit metallic, some chocolate malt, caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish, malty, caramel, some chocolate, soft bitterness, obviously some oxidation, but this beer has aged very well. Aftertaste: bit spicy, some caramel, metallic touch, dried fruits, hint of banana, some chocolate, nice one!!

Amber pour with a white head. The aroma and flavor feature a lot of toffee and caramel notes. There is also a hint of grass in the flavor, as well as some light sugar. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

(Bottled, BBE 08/2012) Hazy dark ruby with a medium, firm and tanned head. Aroma of caramely malt, dried fruit, burned sugar. Gets more complexity as it warms. Flavor is mildly tart, with Oud Bruin/oatmeal -type sourness, caramely maltiness, light roastiness, dried fruit, some anise. Medium+ body, quite soft, medium CO2. A very enjoyable brew, which reminds me of Oerbier, but as slightly less complex and vinous version. 4356

(33cl bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a medium beige head. Aroma of raisins, yeast, dark candi sugar, and caramel. Flavor of raisins, plum, nuts, and yeast.

Draft at In’t Spinnekopke, Brussels. Looks the part of a Belgian brune, and does the job without drawing attention to itself. Slightly more interesting than the blonde.

Bottle from Rob’s Gourmet. Dark brown amber body with slight head. Sweet malty nose. Taste is caramel, and chocolate and malty and quite nice. Smooth, syrupy texture. Enjoyable.

7th March 2010. Hazy red brown beer. Thick off white head, very foamy. A little malt on the nose. Semi dry palate. Toffeeish malt with a little chocolate. Turns spicy with a little dry bubblegum. Finishes dry with a warming afterglow.

A Mes rate. Bottle at La Mort Subite.
Amber brown with a reasonable beige head. Sickly, fruity malt dominates. Slight leather. Some roasty notes along with a reasonably interesting tangy character. Basic but ok.
