JoeinUccle (851), Brussels, Belgium May 5, 2008 Easy-going and refreshing blonde with reasonable hop character. Squat 33 cL bottle at Poechenellekelder says Brasserie de Tubize. Not clear to me whether or this is still being brewed by Senne at De Ranke. Doesn’t matter. Pours a bright gold with nice, persistent, lacy head. Nose is grainy, farmy, hoppy--actually smells like an archetypal saison, for what it’s worth. Some lemon and grapefruit notes in the aroma too. Tastes moderately bitter with that citrus backdrop, some bready aspects there too. Refreshing, characterful, excellent.
bhensonb (3757), Woodland, California, USA May 29, 2008 33 cL bottle at Poechenellekelder. Hazy dirty gold color with a huge, fine, frothy head. Light lemon and fruit aromas. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Fruit and citrus flavors. Fairly dry. Slightly astringent. Very refreshing. diabel (1320), Aarschot, Belgium Apr 4, 2008 Bottle Clear, blond body. White, rocky head with a good lace. Aroma of flowers, honey and hops (nicely balanced). Lightly sweet, lightly bitter flavour. Decent beer, but not very complex. fonefan (8711), VestJylland, Denmark Oct 3, 2007 Bottle. Clear light to medium yellow amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate yeasty, light malty, toasted. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (010907) Glouglouburp (2573), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 26, 2006 Blonde body with a large white head. Spices and barnyard on the nose. Very yeasty/fruity beer with plenty of spices flavours. Pineapples, coriander and more. Weird finish (not unpleasant, just weird) with some acidity, dry hops, brett?, whatever. Easy to drink light and unusual Belgian session beer. That’s one I would need to re-taste a few times to know what I really think of it. Not easy to come by but I betcha I’m gonna get me some Betchard. JorisPPattyn (4922), Antwerpen, Belgium Jul 2, 2006 Fully hazy straw-yellow with a pinkish shine; small rim for head. Spicey & grassy nose; pale malts, greenmalt, and some hops. Hint at fish-salt, call it salmon. Or badly washed glasses. Very fruity and even more spicey taste. No specific spices to be named, I cannot pinpoint a single one, and it might well be the yeast. Unfortunately, once mentioned a bit of pale malts, there isn’t anything to go on about. Some hops in the finish? Light bodied, very faint slickness. Not very impressive beer. I hope the authentic de la Senne version will be more remarkable. DenverLogan (421), Oceanside, California, USA Jun 3, 2006 Nice Spinnekopke recipe for his future brewery called Brasserie de la Senne where he will also have a pub and museum: Cloudy light gold. Easy, smooth, refreshing - some dryness in the finish but nice! Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands May 15, 2006 Bottle. Especially brewed for ’t Spinnekopke, Brussel. Fresh sourrish and fruity(peaches, citrussy) aromas. Simular taste with some extra bitterness and coriander. Full tasting bitterish and sourrish finish. Lots of co2. average.
