CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 27, 2007 On tap at the 2007 GABF: Transparent dark mahogany with a small, frothy dark tan head. Sweet, rich, caramely toffee aroma has a hint of German lager yeast and light fruity notes. Body starts with good German malty viscosity and caramely sweetness balanced with some mild bittering hops and doughy yeast. A very true to stlye and enjoyable doppelbock. Sledge Jr (2720), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Dec 27, 2007 Sampled at GABF 2007. Rich mahogany color with an ivory fluffy head. Fairly thick beer with lots of chocolate and raspberry flavors. Caramel and cherries as well. Great mouthfeel to the thickness. weeare138 (928), Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 26, 2006 Appears a dense, slightly transparent brown with a red hue. A fluffy, off-white head slowly rocks out into a small, floating cap. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of doughy, malty, caramel, with hints of spices highlighted by cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Taste is of spiced, toffee, malty, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cocoa.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, sweet, nice carbonation, with some caramel and cocoa clinging to the palate.
