Oakes (8058), gone rambling, Vietnam Apr 7, 2005 Light copper colour. Spicy, toasty aroma. This character is subdued in the palate by an underfermented wortiness. Finishes off-dry. Bitterness is low. Uneventful generic amber/EPA. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 30, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A decent, big-bubbled head diminishes atop the caramel-tinged golden.
-Delicate wooden, citrusy hops garnish the grainy aroma.
-Rough cereals and hoppy fruitiness form a simple flavor spectrum.
-A svelte malt body is activated by lively carbonation.
What if you dig deeper?
-An appreciable, dry, wooden hop finish attempts to keep things interesting.
-The sweet fruitiness of peaches and apricots roams within.
-All in all, this is a simple ale which fails to keep me interested throughout the glass.
Bottle; no date. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2006 Golden ale with a thick big bubbled head. Non descript light herbal malt aroma. In mouth, a lightly hoped ale with very little else, short in mouth, starting to be a bit off. LCBO in TO, courtesy of Karl. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 30, 2006 Updated: Mar 8, 2009Sampled at the LCBO Summerhill Festival. Bitterness there, but also harshness. and a melange of malt. Little yeast there but vegatable rather than fruity taste. Yellow with lace at end of glass. Dry, metallic. Aggressive carbonation.Thin body and little head.
Earlier Rating: 7/6/2006 Total Score: 2.4 A couple of samples today from the brewer rep at an LCBO. SUrprisingly tasty, though aroma is cow poo. I believe an English hop, significantly malted. Harsh mid sip through finish with higher than desired carbonation. Had 2.5 years later and much better and have raised my rating. Radek Kliber (3930), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Aug 7, 2006 Bottle. LCBO. Pours amber gold with small fizzy top. Mild earthy, grainy aroma. Medium light body, with gentle earthy notes like shy version British ales. Fairly smooth but forgettable. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 29, 2005 Bottle (341ml). Thanks to tupalev!. Poured clear gold, bubbly, with a minimal diminishing white head. Aroma is very woody, almost resiny, with cereal notes, maybe a hint of hops - clean, anyway. I guess this is salty - I think of it as cedary - the wood, not the greenery - there’s dry malt, grain ... MOR. Mouthfeel is dryly acidic - overall nothing wrong with it, but it’s a bit harsh and not that enjoyable. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 9, 2005 Draft. Light golden colour not much head. Somewhat muted caramel malty aroma. Flavour is likewise. Some bitterness balancing it out. Average palate, a bit on the light side. Meh. I have some bottles in the fridge so I may do a re-rate. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 5, 2005 Bottle courtesy of tupalev. Pours a clear bubbly dark gold with an average size diminishing white head. Light aroma of sweet malt, fruit, honey, grain and a touch of hops. Flavour of malt, grain, fruit and again, very light on the hops. It’s semi-sweet with a very slight bitter aftertaste. Medium body. It’s O.K., more like a decent Pilsener than an Ale to me, it’s average at best.
