On tap at the Victory Cafe - came a dark brown, almost looking like a dark brown ale rather than a porter. Vaguely sweet aroma with the maple syrup definitely coming through especially as the glass warmed. Typical porter aromas and flavours of roasted malts, some bitterness, chocolate, and the maple. Body a bit thin. Alcohol noticeable in the finish. Not something I’d get often, but, like most of Nickel Brook’s beers, it’s something I’d go for every now and then in the second or third round.

Reddish dark brown. Light brown head. Light roasted aroma with small hints of sweet maple or something sweet and malty. I don’t find the maple that prominent but there is a sweetness in the flavour. The bitterness of the beer was okay however the body of the porter could have been more chewy.

Nov 24, 2007 Pint at Volo. Very dark body with a creamy tan head, that lasted very well. No too much in the aroma...there’s a faint sweetness and a bit of smoke, but not a lot is coming through. The maple in the flavour hits you up front, but the roasted malts are thankfully the main player (I think maple is nice to add, but not to dominate). There’s some smoke in there too, but everything seems to be a bit let down by the body which is a bit thin.

Nov 12, 2007 Bottled sample via my friend Trevor. Mud brown in colour with fairly low carbonation. Aromas of maple, toffee, and vanilla. Flavors are of roasted malt/nuts, with vanilla caramels, and some almost peppery spice. A bit watery and a bit sweet, but not too bad overall.

Oct 15, 2007 Draught. Dark brown-mahogany body with a creamy off-white small head.
Smells of chocolate, maple sugar, toffee, and some faint sweet fruits.
Solid flavour - chewy chocolate, light smoke, caramel notes. Body tapers off quickly in the finish.
I’ve enjoyed this several times at various locations.
