shintriad (639), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 21, 2008 I knew this was supposed to be strong, but fusel alcohol is by far the most overwhelming note in this beer. Dark orangey-red with a bit of cloudiness, small beige head. Fairly thick and somewhat syrupy body with toffee, spice and some nutty notes. I enjoyed the effort, but the complexity is lost by the overbearing presence of alcohol.
Sledge Jr (2692), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 24, 2008 On tap at C’est What? Very reddish amber with a thin white head. Has a sweet and fruity aroma. The interesting fruitiness that just does not quit. A medicinal tang whips into the fold. The palate is not chewey, but not watery either. This has a serious sweetness that frames some cardamom. HogTownHarry (3118), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada May 27, 2008 Draught. At C’est What. Hazy amber, average draught head. The aroma’s really sweet, vaguely like a quad (spice and yeast), a little grassy. The taste really is a let-down - pretty much boozy bubblegum. Avearge body, slick, lively, a bit boozy - and quite disappointing - could have been good. Radek Kliber (3274), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 26, 2008 On tap at C’est What?
Appearance: Fine haze , amber with light haze of woody brown. Medium creamy top. Nose : Fresh , aromatic , fruity with neat hop feel. Good malty backing.7+ Flavor/Palate : Slight sourness , medium good depth with fresh light bittering. Nice set up with good complexity. Swing of malt, fruit, gentle hopping with something extra.
GregClow (2272), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 16, 2008 Draught at C’est What. Hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is very sweet (caramel, brown sugar) and spicy/herbal with some hints of fruit. Medium bodied. Flavour follows the aroma pretty closely, with a faint woodiness from the oak aging. It’s nice, but definitely best enjoyed in small doses due to the sweetness. pootzboy (855), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada May 16, 2008 Bottle:
Pours a burnished amber color, clear, bright, abundant white cap.
Sweet caramel-toffee malts in the nose spicy herbal hops...very rich aroma
Ample chewy body, sweet malt dominates the front side as fruity yeast esters and hop spicyness join later, long rich finish with some char/toast from black malts, malty-sweet finish with a lingering sweet-bitter aftertaste.
Not a bad offering at all, these rich ales aren’t mu cup of teas but I like this one well enough
