COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ISG is the granddaddy of our Rye Guy IPA. More grain! More hops! The result is an incredibly flavourful, yet balanced Imperial IPA. There is a big malt flavour up front which presents in the form of rich caramel and serves to balance the high bitterness of a beer weighing in at 90 IBUs. The result is a nice, lingering, spicy taste on the tongue. And at 9.1% ABV, this is definitely going to make you super!

First have to say that of all the places that have opened up in Ottawa over the last few years this is the one that I was the most excited about and judging from the line-up when they opened today at noon (not too mention pretty much selling what they optimistically thought was a week’s worth of beer in 2 days) I am not alone. Now that being said I didn’t necessarily think this would be the greatest beer ever but based on some interviews and discussions the brewers are passionate about beer and enjoy many of the same styles that us beer nerds do. Anyways...poured from a small growler (more places in Ontario need to do this). Dark amber with pretty much no head even with a swirl. A fair amount of caramel malt with a nice blend of resin and some citrus, bit of green apple and no hint of alcohol. Carbonation is very low so curious if maybe this suffered from being put into the growler, moderate body, initial bitterness that becomes astringent on the finish, dry, lots of resin and a very nice bitter taste at the every end. Like this, need to try it on tap or another growler to see if the carbonation appears as I think it would substantially improve things - that being said its worth trying for sure.

473 mL can. Diacetyl ruins this one. Based on the ratings, this must be a bad batch, but how this gets through quality control is beyond me. A shame . . . I was looking forward to this one.

Can (473 ml) at home. From Alexandre, thanks! Hazy orangey-amber with a medium off-white head, good retention, leaving little lacing. Flavors of piney hops, tropical fruits, medium rye spiciness, caramel and mineral notes. Taste is sweet and moderately spicy with a medium bitterness level. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Rye spiciness finish. A decent Imperial IPA but the rye spiciness is too much and makes the beer unbalanced.

Can - a sweet caramel and candy like hops. Cleanish gold with a decent off white head. Sweet orange and mango with lots of sweetness. A bit vomity.

473mL can, pours a cloudy orange with a medium white head. Aroma is quite spicy, with rye, earthy hops, and bready malt. Flavour is very earthy, with spicy rye, bready malt, and faded earthy hops. Seems a bit old, and heavily dominated by the earthy notes. Okay.

Fantastic beer alert. This stuff is great. All the hops you’d want (ok, maybe I’d like to see a little more but still) & a bold rye foundation. It’s citrus hops meets rye grain goodness. Great balance. Classy spicy finish. You’d probably want to slow sip this one -- the alcohol clocks in at just above 9% -- but for some reason I pounded this (which is probably to blame for a few bad decisions I made (.i.e ordering multiple imperial pale ales throughout the evening etc) later in the night). Hey look: last guy to rate this is my main man from Ottawa, Mr Hippy Hop. He’s got good taste.
