COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You think you’ve tasted a robust stout? Think again! The Darkness is an incredibly dark and creamy beer that will overwhelm the palate with loads of dark chocolate and coffee flavours.

A dark as night stout with a slim off-white head poured from a growler bought direct from the brewery in Ottawa. This was a fine complement since whilst the snow was deep on the ground with its malty chocolate aroma and a fine hoppy molasses of a taste it was smooth and full of flavour as any winter ale ought to be with a modest alcohol level.

32oz. growler from the brewery in Ottawa, Ontario. Black in colour with a thin beige head, light lacing. The aroma is roasty, some chocolate, coffee, light smoke. The flavour is roasty, sweet chocolate, light coffee. Finishes long, sweet and dry.

On tap at The SmoQue Shack. Black pour with a frothy tan head. Flavors are roasted malts, toasted bread, oatmeal, coffee and dark chocolate with herbal and ashy notes. Medium body, soft carbonation, smooth texture.

On tap at the Ottawa Beerfest. Darkness 5.6% oatmeal stout 1 ticket for a plastic glass. Pitch black with a thick creamy beige head. Big toasty aroma , chocolate and light coffee. Medium bodied, creamy, toasted oats, a hint of campfire smoke. Much closer to a classic oatmeal stout than Perth Brewing’s. Nice.

Midnight black with a half finger of mocha head. All roast and coffee on the nose and bitterness in the flavour. Mouth feel was a tad thin. Bitter and slight astringent finish

Poured deep dark brown with a dense white head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast malt. Medium to full body, flavour much as the aroma.

On Draft at Pub Italia. Black in color with a very thin off-white head that dissipates rapidly. Minimal lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Tastes of dark chocolate and malts with an underlying smokines Fairly quaffable for a beer of this style. Well done Beyond the Pale.

Cask at L’Autre Oeil (Gatineau, QC). Perfectly opaque black body with a thin, fading off-white frothy head. Good malty aroma with hoppy, roasted cereals, and grainy hints. Its sharp malty/hoppy taste carries coffeeish and woody notes. Ends with a dry bitter/roasty finish. Enjoyable.

Pint at Rochester Pub. Dark brown-black with a tight mocha head. Strong roasted character, quite dry, black coffee and dark chocolate notes, a touch green. Medium body, sparse carbonation, a little powdery and astringent. Tons of dark roasted malt, coffee and a touch of dark chocolate, slightly ashen and smoky, a little green; dry, moderate bitterness and a touch of tang, lots of coffee and roasted character. A little too roasted for my tastes.

Very nice stout. Smells like robust roast malt, coffee and some nut. Pours black with pretty good head considering this is on cask. Medium bitter finish, full palate. Nice. Cask at pub Italia.

[on tap at brewery opening] Sweet mocha coffee with some spent hops character, pine, and vanilla. Opaque black under a lasting, light brown cover that laces the glass. Dry, roasted barley flavour that is intense, with vanilla and then bitter chocolate. Some dried fruit detectable. Dry, light body, moderate carbonation.
