3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler. Black with a khaki head that laces nicely. Freshly ground coffee on the nose, breakfast cereal and cocoa. Dark fruits, bitter chocolate and caramel malts, some herbal, woodsy hop tones. Lightly sweet malts up front with a massively roasted finish and noticeable hopping. Moderate body with average carbonation. Dense and chewy, but still balanced and drinkable. A very good stout indeed.

Cask at L’Autre Oeil (Gatineau, QC). Perfectly opaque black body with a thin, fading off-white frothy head. Good malty aroma with hoppy, roasted cereals, and grainy hints. Its sharp malty/hoppy taste carries coffeeish and woody notes. Ends with a dry bitter/roasty finish. Enjoyable.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pint at Rochester Pub. Dark brown-black with a tight mocha head. Strong roasted character, quite dry, black coffee and dark chocolate notes, a touch green. Medium body, sparse carbonation, a little powdery and astringent. Tons of dark roasted malt, coffee and a touch of dark chocolate, slightly ashen and smoky, a little green; dry, moderate bitterness and a touch of tang, lots of coffee and roasted character. A little too roasted for my tastes.
