You think you’ve tasted a robust stout? Think again! The Darkness is an incredibly dark and creamy beer that will overwhelm the palate with loads of dark chocolate and coffee flavours.

Growler from the brewery. Dark with a nice fluffy brown head - the best looking of the original line-up. Roasted malts, some chocolate, bit of smoke and coffee although lighter then I expected (maybe i shouldn’t have thought). Mild sweetness with a pleasant bitterness, mild body and carbonation, some anise and more malt on the finish with some more chocolate and very dry.

Poured deep dark brown with a dense white head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast malt. Medium to full body, flavour much as the aroma.

On Draft at Pub Italia. Black in color with a very thin off-white head that dissipates rapidly. Minimal lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Tastes of dark chocolate and malts with an underlying smokines Fairly quaffable for a beer of this style. Well done Beyond the Pale.

Cask at L’Autre Oeil (Gatineau, QC). Perfectly opaque black body with a thin, fading off-white frothy head. Good malty aroma with hoppy, roasted cereals, and grainy hints. Its sharp malty/hoppy taste carries coffeeish and woody notes. Ends with a dry bitter/roasty finish. Enjoyable.

Pint at Rochester Pub. Dark brown-black with a tight mocha head. Strong roasted character, quite dry, black coffee and dark chocolate notes, a touch green. Medium body, sparse carbonation, a little powdery and astringent. Tons of dark roasted malt, coffee and a touch of dark chocolate, slightly ashen and smoky, a little green; dry, moderate bitterness and a touch of tang, lots of coffee and roasted character. A little too roasted for my tastes.

Very nice stout. Smells like robust roast malt, coffee and some nut. Pours black with pretty good head considering this is on cask. Medium bitter finish, full palate. Nice. Cask at pub Italia.

[on tap at brewery opening] Sweet mocha coffee with some spent hops character, pine, and vanilla. Opaque black under a lasting, light brown cover that laces the glass. Dry, roasted barley flavour that is intense, with vanilla and then bitter chocolate. Some dried fruit detectable. Dry, light body, moderate carbonation.

Black pour with a brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted grain. Flavor is similar, but also pretty smooth. Nice mouth feel on this one. Good stout.

(Rating #4681)

1L growler from czar, thanks mate. Pours pitch black with a short lasting beige head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, molasses. Flavor is dark chocolate, somewhat sweet, a touch of molasses. And lots of roasted malts. Finish is roasty, and strangely enough, more acid than bitter. Light to medium body, slightly watery mouthfeel, light carbonation. Very dry stout, not all that sweet.

1l growler from brewery. pours clear very dark brown with a low beige head, some retention and lacing. chocolate malts-plenty, ground coffee, light ashy and mineral notes, roastiness acidity - light, grassy-peppery-resinous light but assertive hopping for a short but sharp bittering coffee finish along with a hint of acidity, that clearly helps drinkability. soft carbonation, light body - slightly lacking, hint of sweetness, but ends relatively dry. more than decent offering.
