You think you’ve tasted a robust stout? Think again! The Darkness is an incredibly dark and creamy beer that will overwhelm the palate with loads of dark chocolate and coffee flavours.

Growler from the brewery. Dark with a nice fluffy brown head - the best looking of the original line-up. Roasted malts, some chocolate, bit of smoke and coffee although lighter then I expected (maybe i shouldn’t have thought). Mild sweetness with a pleasant bitterness, mild body and carbonation, some anise and more malt on the finish with some more chocolate and very dry.

Pours an average size head and has a pitch black appearance. Pretty good lacing. Some fairly strong coffee, cocoa and nutty aromas. Very welcoming. Flavours are very much of dark chocolates and coffee, dark roast orentied. Lots of mocha, roasted malts and oats also noticeable. Mouthfeel has a mild warming sensation, also pretty smooth. Pretty good stuff.

Pours a large brown, frothy lasting head atop an opaque black body. Nose of molasses and burnt brown sugar, red wine and ash. Flavour is mildly tart, sweet milk chocolate and soya sauce. Very tasty though it seems thin through the palate. A nice stout.

[Mini-growler c/o Big Red] Pours a very dark amber-brown with an average size lasting frothy light-brown head. Lovely aroma of roasted malt, nuts, chocolate, leafy hops, lactic notes and a bit of coffee. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee & chocolate first followed by leafy hops, nuts and a moderate bitter finish. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Fantastic stuff.

[7080-20150228] Growler. Roasted grainy malt aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy tan head. Roasted woody malt and coffee grinds flavour. Full body. Good. (7/3/7/4/16) 3.7

Draught @ The Manx, Ottawa. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of roast, with malty and estery notes. Bitterish, roasty flavour with malty and estery notes and touches of hops and coffee. Roasty and estery aftertaste. Easily drinkable and quite enjoyable. Decent.

Big chocolate aroma. Not too carbonated an oatmeal stout and kills the style.

Deep black pour with a thin tan head. The aroma is rich and roasty. Some nice sweet fruit and a bit of licorice. Quite chewy and a little bit fudgey as well. Medium palate with a bit of an herbal flavour on the back. Rich and tasty.

Growler: Poured a black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head. Aroma of dry bitter roasted malt notes with nice underlying bitter coffee notes. Taste is an easy drinking mix of roasted malt with some bitter coffee notes with light black chocolate. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable with nice drinkability factor.
