3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled this on draft at Trappeze in Athens. A little murky orange/brown pour as it was coming from the dregs of the keg. Interesting tart dark fruity sourness, and only hints of the rum/wood barrel. made for a tasty sipper though. HId the abv well. I was particularly in the mood for something sour, so this was quite a nice treat, but still, i know it wasn’t amazing as far as sours go.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
It pours a dark brown with just the slightest bubbly head.
The smell is nice. Good barrel notes with some vanilla. There are dark vinous fruits with some sourness. It isn’t too funky, just acidic in the smell.
The mouthfeel is thick and ever so lightly carbonated. The flavor is dark fruits, some toastiness, balsamic vinegar, leather, rum. This one is pretty complex and easily would scare off the average person.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep amber with a medium tan head...great lacing. Aroma has a subtle tartness with some candied fruits, fig, and raisin. Flavor follows suit...a mild dry earthiness from the rye. Mouthfeel is full and silky with a slightly tart fruity dry finish.

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle shared by durhambeer - thanks, Bob. Good fuck, was this one tough to stomach. This was the kind of thing that made me pine for a merely overdone and excessively boozy beer or something like that. What you have here was a beer with genuine character . . . alas. The nose initially promised something a bit fruity and pulls it away quickly, Lucy to your Charlie Brown. Indistinct sharpness, and not even much rye. The taste is even worse, fucking you at the intersection of sewer and fish barrel. ROUGH. I need a map home.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Aroma is very tart, similar to a lambic. The flavor is fruit, heavily tart and a mild alcohol burn in the finish. Not bad but the barley wine flavors were overwhelmed by the tartness, not sure if the barrels caused it.
