2015-03-04. Hazy orange amber body with a modest beige head. 3+ Aroma is tangy and a bit sour. Mild doughy malt character? Flavour is lightly sour up front which lingers, lightly fruity and doughy. Very smooth average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Decent, enjoyable. On tap at Pizzeria Paradiso Dupont Circle, Washington DC.

Sample at KurtKeller 021: Pappy-tastic 01 on 03/06/2015. Hazy golden color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruit, oak and yeast. Medium-bodied with flavors of zesty citrus, herbal yeast, oak and malt. The finish is oaky and fruity with a grassy yeast aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Pours initially hazy, building to cloudy with chunky large sediment, yellow-apricot with 1.5-inches cream-colored head, coarse, moderate rate of decay. Aroma is rather sour, lactic, but with lots of old dry cheese, substantial floral notes, a bit of bubble gum, grapefruit juice with a bit of mango and mint. Body is light, watery, a tad bit starchy. Carbonation is moderate intensity, medium-fine, blanket of light burn. Flavor is lemon juice tartness with a hint of cherry laffy taffy (that’s a throwback). Some tingling grain and herbs in the finish. I wish the laffy taffy were subdued, but overall a very unique, tart saison. Worth trying. I’m not sure if it lives up to the rating its given, though.

Ernest (6514) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 11, 2015
Draft at Holy Grale. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly to moderately yeasty (barnyard, cobwebs), with notes of lemon/lime zest, band aid, oak. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. Quite nice...reminds me of Russian River Temptation and Sanctification...elegant blend of sour ale and saison sort of characters, nice yeast, nice tartness. It stopped just short of 4+ excitement for me, but this is very tasty stuff.
