Flaske 0,75l. Spandert av Rune under hyggelig treff i WCveien 11 Jan 14. Lys gylden. Uklar. Høyt skum med mye lacing. Beskjeden fruktaroma. Smaken er fruktig - men litt vassen.

Small bottler in a tulip. Pours murky amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of light tart and funky notes, some hints of wood, a little bit of pale and caramel malts, some light fruits, and light spices. Flavor the same with a nice tart/sourness. Average texture. A pretty good saison.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a creamy finger thick head. Aroma is tart and yeasty with earthy notes of oak and brett. Very nice. Full body with soft carbonation. Flavour is sour with funky yeast notes of brett, as well as fruits and berries, ending is a fruity sour apple finish.

Bouteille 75cl de Grain d’Orge @ Crissier. BB 06/2014. Orangée trouble col épais, très soyeux et crémeux tenace de couleur blanc cassé. Arôme offre qcq note de brett avec un sucre résiduel persistent et fort présent tout comme cet accompagnement de barrique de Saint Bonch’. Retrouve un bouquet rustique sur des pointes fermentées et de grains. Palais est rustique sur un boisé modéré ici le tout est renforcé par le mûrissage en barrique de Saint Bonch’. Retrouve aussi ce côté typique de brett-léger funk dopant des pointes d’abricot. Je note une certain douceur sucrée qui vient contrebalancé le profil un peu acidulé de la bière, le tout renforcé par des grains de type saison oscillant entre du carapils et pâle laissant juste le nécessaire au niveau malté. Possible fini fruité rouge venant de la barrique? ce fini est par ailleurs sec avec une possible pointe vanillée arrivant discrètement en toute, mais toute fin de bouche.

$10 for the .5 pint/8 oz. pour on tap at the Grog yesterday evening. Hazy, dark tangerine; sustains a thin, sudsy, whitish head half a finger in length. Aromas of Playdo, kelp, pilsner malt, sea salt, fresh cow enzymes, and chewed hay. Tastes the same with the addition of spicy peppercorn, coriander, coconut flour, Kaffir limes, and rolled oats by mid-palate. Farmhouse and wild yeasts, Bible paper, sawdust, pluots, and cherry tomatoes by swallow. Tart, bittersweet, and astonishingly refreshing. Would have again.

Beerenberger (1591) - Fischer, Texas, USA - JAN 28, 2014
Ahhh, funky barnyard aromas abound! Wonderful nose. Notes of citrus and tropical fruit are also present. Pours a hazy orangish-amber with a thin, none lasting, white head and no lacing. The taste, like the nose, is marvously funky. Brett, citrus, leather, toast, hints of tropical fruit, and somewhat of a nutty yet hoppy finish. Complex. Medium-light body and crisp carbonation. Crisp, dry mouthfeel. Overall, a exceptionally crafted and tasty Saison with a nod to the "funky" side. Will drink again.

Gulbrun tåkete med hvitt skum. Sure bær, sitrom og noe halmlukt. God syrlig sur smak. syrligheten sitter godt i ettersmaken også, medium kullsyre.

Korngul, uklar/tåkete. Lite hvitt skumlag. Aroma av åker og strå, sitrus, syrlig. Masse kullsyre, sprudlende/boblende munnfølelse som i champagne. Fruktig og veldig syrlig. Bitter, lang og god ettersmak.

Hazy apricot colored body has a tight, peach-flecked white head that is moderately well-retained, though some of the barrel acids knock it down a bit.
Before I can even smell it, my girlfriend smells her glass exclaiming "Olive Juice!!". Son of a bitch. I hate when that happens. Someone say something that is actually spot-on and you can’t shake it the rest of the way through the beer. Despite this being a really nicely made beer, with a reserved wildness and good body, I was never able to get past the olive aroma of it. Obviously the acetic acid, possibly the hops and some other notes from the barrel combine to create this "olive"-like note, but it’s hard to escape it once you start thinking about it. With some breathing and warming, it starts to open up and you can tell that it’s just a very concentrated barrel aroma. It never completely disappears though...Heavy vinousness, what seems like rosemary (though there is none in it) and moderate tartness are found behind this olivey note. No alcohol, no happiness. Light pepper phenols and lots of wood tannin keep it quite dry.
The flavor is mostly free of this persistent olive note seen in the nose. Nutty, chewy, bready malts are well-attenuated, while barrel and wild yeast notes produce suggestions of cherry, raisin and plum. Lightly watery, yet a very engaging carbonation and bready maltiness give it a decent body through the middle. Some odd phenolic character on the end (more rosemary, dill pickles, light anchovy??) and greasiness from the barrel detract. Strange, yet well-constructed beer. Definitely demands drinking another bottle. I’d guess the AdSBC character it pulls from the barrels dominates the beer a bit too much.
