3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours sepia, chalk-hazed with a mahogany veneer under a holding ecru head. Exreme tart & tannic aroma with a huge alcohol background. Spiciness hovers behind and settles in the sinuses. Dry & wooden flavor with an overall sour vinousness. That’s where my notes end, and my words sadly do nothing to convey my appreciation and enjoyment of this complex Swiss offering.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
I was told the bottle I was drinking was a 2002 but I guess I was mislead. It is delicious. So warming. Late lingering bite. Very complex of fruit and candy. Sweetness of gummy candy and little bitterness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle, from sloth - outrageous man, thanks! Pours hazy chestnut amber with a small head. Aroma is wonderful, woody and vinuous, tart fruits and florals, brandy notes. Flavor is complex, tart and sweetish, dry, rich woody and unripe fruit flavors, wine barrels, tannic and spice. Smooth, full body, gentle carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark brown body with a small tan head. Nice dark cyrstal and chocolate malt aroma - maple syrup smoothness. The flavor brings in favorable strong tart lemon and raspberry elements over light chocolaty graham cracker. Wraps up with bittering hops, clean alcohol and raspberry. Better than the ’05 version but still not stupendous.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark brown , with a tan head. Aromas are sweet malt, dark fruit, raisins, wood, and vanilla. Flavors are slightly sour malt, wood, bourbon, fruit, wine, and vanilla. Rather intertesting and not exactly what I thought it would be. Thanks to eclectic for this one.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Big thanks to boboski for this one. Hazy dark brown color with ruby tints within. Thin white head. Aromas are plentiful and remarkable. Aggressive yeast and lambic/funk aromas, dark musky oak/wine/grape/black cherry aromas, freshly cut apples, raisins. Palate is medium-bodied and the carbonation is well-done, not being noticed. Dark, dry, sweet cherry and grape flavors throughout with some spiciness. Sour finish, which shifts around (as do the aromas) as the beer sits. Excellent.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Courtesy boboski. Very dark ruby/brown. Small, frothy, tan cap. Nose of dry red wine, sour grapes, oak, and light doses of chocolate, smoke, vinegar, alcohol. Same flavors. Additions: sour cherries, sweeter grape grappa, subtle vanilla, zesty yeast. Very complex. Full body, balanced. Truly excellent brew. How the hell is the average only 3.9?

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle with a huge thanks to MikeD for bringing this out of his cellar. Very earthy and almost muddy/clay aroma with some sour cherry, grape and raisin notes as well. Pours muddy brown with virtually no head. Flavor is lightly sour. Some raisin notes with a pleasant dry woody tartness. Slightly vinous. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Finishes with a zesty dry oakiness.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear garnet with few, if any, bubbles. Essentially still. The aroma is just huge. Loads of vinous character: red wine, oak, cherries, spice, alcohol, light malt, red grapes and some sweet vanilla. The body is thick and silky as the lack of carbonation allows the liquid to encapsulate the tongue. The flavor is strong and shows more barrel-aged character. Mostly sweet with a hint of tannin bitterness and licorice-esque alcohol heat. The finish is long and warm, a good cold-weather beer. This isn’t a bad beer, but not quite as elegant as I’d hoped. The barrel-aging is cool, but probably a little too dominate and the strength just isn’t hidden at all. I like it, but a little refinement could make this really fantastic, at least in terms of my tastes.
