4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Sombeast (151) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 7, 2007Bottle #276 shared by Ugsmash - *extreme* thanks! It appears that I will have the honor of putting this on the radar with the 10th rating. Pour is a tawny brownish red with a mild head. Aroma is mysterious and intriguing, oak, a hint of Brett funk, fruits (cherries, grapes), and whiskey. Flavor has a distinct oak barrel character, with sourness, tartness and bitterness and a tad of funk. The 15.5% (!) alcohol level is well-hidden, except my gums are numbing as I swirl this beer in my mouth. Both flavor and aroma are complex and something to marvel over. The finish is somewhat bitter with a slight edge of astringency, but not at all unpleasant. I am reminded somewhat of the character of the New Glarus Belgian Quad, but less the cherries.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mcberko (4055) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 6, 2013
750mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot, Dany), pours a murky dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma of massive wood, oak, vinous notes, and tart dark fruits – no hint of 15.5%. Flavour brings out loads of wood, vinegar, some slightly tart dark fruits, oak and some mildly vinous notes. Quite vinegary and oaky. Surprisingly, no slight hint of the 15.5% - seems like 7 or 8% max. Finishes on moderately vinegary notes with quite a bit of oak. Great stuff.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 AndreasJaeger (500) - Malmö, SWEDEN - FEB 12, 2013
Oklar röd/brun i färgen, offwhite skum. Doftar söt-surt med lingon, rött vin, blåa druvor, karamell, funky, röda bär. Smakar härligt sur-sött, vinöst, blåa druvor, röda bär, lingon, funky. Fantastiskt!!

Bottle at Brick Store Pub in Decatur, shared with staf, two dudes drinking Founders, and a polite older British couple. Cloudy ruby naroon color, scant tan edge head. Aroma of ruby port, plums, raisins. Taste is lightly tannic and softly sour red grapes, apples skins, cranberries. Easy to drink for such a big beer. Fantastic stuff, never expected to find it on a quick weekend trip to Atlanta.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, reddish amber brown color with a small, bubbly off-white head. The aroma has sweet caramel, tart and sour cherry, berries, oak and vinegar. The flavor brings more of the same tart cherry fruits, spices, sweet caramel malts, oak, vinegar and alcohol. Light to medium bodied with good drinkability and a moderate tart character.
Had this in 2011 and the bottle had picked up quite a bit of cork and dust and was going down hill.
I would have given this a higher rating if I didn’t have the bad bottle. I wouldn’t have expected this to fall off the way it did.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Headbanger (2471) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUN 16, 2012
750ml bottle #276 6/16/12 (Courtesy of kkearn)-46° in snifter-Pours a hazy amberish brown with a small ring for a head. Aroma of dried fruit, oak, caramel, and toffee. Taste of the same with some red wine flavors coming out. This full bodied brew is well balanced and goes down easy. Not a fan of wine but this is darn tasty.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 phaleslu (4431) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 5, 2011
750 ml bottle shared by STLWill at the STL RB Gathering- thanks again, Will! We were all leery of the $19.99 orange sale sticker on this, marked down from $21.99. Will, how could you be so cheap?! Pours a hazy, basically murky amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of plum, grape, sweet and caramel malts, berries, and spices. Flavor brings more of the same berry fruits, spices, sweet malts, along with toffee, wood, and booze. Light-medium bodied, with a smooth, fruity mouthfeel and low carbonation. Sourness has really mellowed over the years into a smooth, ripened fruitiness. Not bad, though.

Smells radical - oak, sour red fruits, light funk. The flavor is quite dry, lightly tart, and medium-light funky with a medium bitter brett-y, lightly woody finish.

Bottle @ Blindtasting, Odense, July 2011. Pours cloudy amber red with a small creamy bubbly head. Nose is tart, fruity and vinous with some clearly oxidized notes. Oak, caramel and subdued acetone. Flavor has a bit of cellar. Vaguely over the top.
