henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark Oct 8, 2009 Very beautiful amber body with a big beige head; Very beautiful nose, acid fresh with fine aromas of pine resin, flowers and all spice excellent; Big big bubbled carbonation, a little unfitting warm acid, bitter balanced complex and interesting; Long great finish oak again but way more balanced then in both the 07 and 08, fruity aromas. Excellent beer that seems to age very well. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Sep 14, 2009 Bottle 75cl. @ home. [ Trade by GAManiac ]. nbutler11 (727), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 8, 2009 Bottle shared by Shyam. Pours a murky shade of brown with a trim white head. Smells predominantly of cherries and oak. Tastes of each with added notes of caramel and distant vanilla. Much more basic than I was expecting -- but a decent beer, regardless. boamr (112), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2009 Poured a brown color with a nasty foot smell to it. Had a medium white head to it. Has a horrable sour taste to it. Best part of this beer was watching it go down the drain alobar (1001), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2009 Pours with a fizzy tan head. Caramel color. And that’s where the fun stops. Had a funky foot-ass smell. Not much taste either- a little yeast; a touch sour. Highly anticipated. Enormously disappointing. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Jul 29, 2009 Bottle brought by Shyam - sorry to vouch for this, my man. We were all bored out of our minds by this. Nose was the really glazed cherry candy/cough syrup of Arctic Devil or Virgin Papier, which was surprising. Also some impressive moldy wood, vanilla, smoke and toffee which made us really excited for the beer underneath. Then it was just the above candy/cough syrup thing with maybe some Flemish style cherry flavor. Not sour in the slightest. Not even close. Tasted like an Old Ale or an over-designed barleywine aged till flat. Baffling - the 2007 was outrageously good... rampmaster (314), Alden, New York, USA Jul 22, 2009 Presentation: It was poured from a capped green 1pint 9.4oz bottle. The bottle reads hand crafted in 2006 at 11%abv. aged in oak and blended October 07. Also there is what I think is a bottle number or batch number on the neck label that reads 00276.
Appearance: The body has a dark and murky appearance with a dark brownish burgundy color and some lighter reddish high lights. Near the edges of the glass there are some tine bubbles of carbonation. The head is a small, creamy off white layer of foam that slowly fades to just a small ring of tiny bubbles. Lacing is slick and minimal.
Smell: Its aroma has nice tart fruit, funky earthy yeast notes with a hint of oak.
Taste/Mouth: The flavor starts with a semi-sweet malty base with a wonderfully complex mix of dry tart fruit, funky earthy east and wood. Some fruit notes that pop out are sour cherries, dry wine like grapes, and tart apple skins. All these flavors work in perfect harmony and its 11%abv is well hidden. It adds another layer of complexity and mellow warmth to the palate. It has a medium body with a silky light texture and soft carbonation.
Notes: This beer shows outstanding complexity, balance and sophistication. I could sip this all night paired up with a nice plate of fine cheese and fruit.
