fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Mar 22, 2008 750 ml bottle shared by Padrefan98 in the Lost abbey release party line. Aromas were sour and acidic. Flavors were similar. Dark fruits were evident as well as some earthy funk. Pretty good Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 19, 2008 Pour is hazed ruddy amber with a big bubbled tan head...smell is tart and woody with cherries, oak, and yeast...taste is sweet and lightly fruity with cherries and pears and a hint of peach...then some light tartness takes over...pushing away the sweetness with a nice woody funk...clean lightly tart finish...excellent! sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 17, 2008 Shared at Cleveland tasting 3/15 Bottle: Pours a murky copper with a tan head. Aroma, brown sugar, molasses, some sourness. Flavor, sweet with a tartness, sour cherries, some yeasty notes, alcohol was well hidden. Good stuff. padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Mar 17, 2008 Shared at Lost Abbey Angel Share Bourbon Release line tasting. By far one of my favorites of the morning. Smelled of cherries with lots of sourness. Tastes of sour cherries and almost no alcohol. Very good. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Mar 9, 2008 Copperish to red in color. Nice size head. Very appealing in the look. Sweet and sour in the aroma but in a great balance. Some acidiity. A touch of alcohol. Cherries in the smell and taste. Schroppfy (1810), Ohio, USA Mar 7, 2008 You know that episode of MASH, where Henry gets the new desk? And he keeps asking Hawkeye, Trapper John and Radar if they know what kind of wood it is and they say "oak," only for Henry to say "No, its oak."? This beer - it is OAK. OAK, OAK, and more oak. The woodiest beer since I don’t know when. Strange, sour fruit, cherry skins, totally retronasal assault. Bombastic. How do they pack 11% into this thing? OAK. OAK. DenverLogan (421), MileHi, Colorado, USA Mar 5, 2008 2006 bottle. Amber orange color...small head. Aroma of sour cherries, flowers in a field, slight caramel and honey malts. Flavors include some sour cherry candies, sour fruit, slight barnyard and wood finish. Funky and fun! holdenn (1431), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 1, 2008 750 bottle sampled at Delilah’s Vintage Ale Festival 08. Pours a hazy orange-red with a beige head that fades quick. Cherry, oak, alcohol, candied sugars and yeast in the nose. A light tartness plays with the oak. Surprisingly sweet flavors. Alcohol, cherries, apples, candied sugars, brown sugar. Once again tart with a slight funkiness. I’m surprised the alcohol is so hidden at 11%. The sweetness and sourness aren’t my favorite combination though, still pretty decent.
