Pours to a nice deep ruby mahogany body with a nice white head. The aroma is tangy and sour with rhubarb with a oaky wine barrel and peppery spice. Earthy. The flavor is tangy and sour with rhubarb and juniper berries. Peppery spice that is quite nice. Super smooth and I didn’t even know it was 11%. The palate is nicely textured with a medium full body with no noticed alcohol. The beer was quite nice overall.

Thanks to Blake for bringing the 750mL bottle. Poured cloudy, deep orange with a short-lived beige head. The aroma picked up sour cherries, yeasty notes, and oak over a fruity and lesser bready base.. lovely sourness going on. The flavor found tangy cherry skins and oak throughout, but not overly sour.. dry bready notes and a bit of oxidation beneath.. lots of vinous sourness on the edges.. more cherries, a little lemon zest, and oak on the warm finish.. lots of residual sugars and age to it. Medium-bodied, dry, and grainy on the palate.. lots of barrel present.. good stuff, but not great.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 madvike (1467) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Bottle shared by 1FastSTi...thanks Blake! - Pours rosy brown with a thin ring of off-white head. A bit of heat on the nose, but oaky and pleasant. Funky black cherry and dry red wine. Taste is super smooth, with black cherry, a touch of spice, and a dry, oaky finish. Has a bit of syrupy sweetness on the long finish, but it’s welcomed. Pretty thick, and something I wouldn’t want a ton of--but the sample I had was pretty nice.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 bsp77 (724) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 5, 2011
Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Snifter.
Appearance: Very cloudy lava-orange with thin head and slight lacing.
Aroma: Sour apples and cherries are dominant with some oak, pepper and alcohol.
Taste: Wine-like with somewhat sour apples and cherries, oak, pepper and an overall musty quality.
Palate: High champagne-like carbonation with a relatively light body for the high alcohol. Tart, dry finish.
Overall: Probably the best sour beer I have had. Of course, after three years of burgundy barrel aging, I am not sure this is really a Biere de Garde, but who cares, it’s great.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beerbill (2938) - Laurel, New York, USA - AUG 18, 2011
750 ml bottle. Pours a rusty brown with a thin-moderate tan head. Very pleasant aroma of malt, oak, cherry, and red wine. The flavor is malt, oak, cherry, red wine with a bit of tartness and some mild funk. There is some light sweetness which compliments the tartness and brightens the beer on the palate. Lovely.

Hazy red chestnut with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherry, dusty cellar, wood and a hint of caramel. Dry and slightly tart flavour with strong dusty character, some cherry, pretty strong alcohol.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dionysus (1443) - Arizona, USA - JUL 16, 2011
Courtesy of jtclockwork, and shared with the amazing AZ beer crew. Bottle pours red/brown with a khaki head. Aroma is typical to the set showing plenty of funk, tart vinous fruit, but a more significant malt presence. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of caramel, dried
cherry, nuts, vanilla, and oak. Not quite as acidic as the others tasted from the series that day. As the nose showed, it was a little more malt driven but still very pleasant and crisp.

Shared by Dstructo. Sour tartness in the aroma, slight fruit as well. Flavor was mostly sour and tart, but extremely tasty.
