4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DocLock (5966) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2010
Bottle from PUB’N via a beer procurement engineer. Pours turbid ruby mahogany w 2f ow head. Nose is tremendous; cherry, earthy dank basement, dark fruit, malt, oak, berry, vinous fruit. Tastes of vinous fruit, on the tart side, with oaky, berry, cherry, and thick cabernet flavors. Very rich, very complex, with well hidden -OH. This one is delicious, and gets tarter and more oaky, giving a more barleywine effect, late, but in the beginning, it’s like a tart cabernet lambic hybrid.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20 Leighton (4091) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 16, 2010
2007 Bottle, at Jimmy’s No 43 during a Lovullo Tasting Session. Poured a cloudy, ruby-red with a white, fizzy head. Tart aroma, with pungent cherry notes, some light alcohol, plenty of lactic acids and funk. Heavily reminiscent of the Cherry Warhead. Medium bodied with soft, fizzy carbonation and acidic bite. A rather dry finish. This was really nice beer.

Tasted from 750ml bottle at Lush West Town. Pours a chunky cloudy amber with a lacy light brown head. Nose of sour cherries and some funky earthiness. Flavor is sour and fruity with red berries and a lot of funk. Body is medium with light carbonation and a long funky sour finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 koopa (335) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 26, 2010
Bottle either purchased at Capone’s or DeCicco’s I can’t remember.
Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy burnt orange with a massive 4 finger dirty khaki crown that shows some retention and lace.
Smell: A touch sweet but predominantly tart and vinous. Brett like yeast (Notes of lemon and slight barnyard mustiness) is apparent but not overpowering. Not extremely complex, but not boring either.
Taste: Again like the nose the initial sip makes you think its going in the sweet direction but then you are bombarded by tartness and green grapes. A bit disjointed if you ask me. Lots of brett, white raisins, and some sweet malt. Not too much barrel in the flavor profile. Slight crushed up aspirin quality too. This is barely a 4.0 in the taste category for me. I’d give it a 3.8 if I could.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Probably the best category for this brew.
Drinkability: At 11% abv with a not too particularly nice taste profile I’m gonna score this one down.

2005 and 2007 vertical of BFMs shared by Nick3 on BA.
Cloudy reddish color with a small off-white head. Looks a little better than the swampier 2005 version.
Nice tart nose, very fruity with lots of vinous notes and oakiness. Some cherries, red berries, and mild funk as well.
Flavor is tart, lactic, oaky, and vinous. Vinegar and tart berries as well. I’m getting a little more cherry in this one than in the 2005, but otherwise it’s very similar. This one is listed as only 11% ABV relative to the 15.5% the 2005 is listed at. Neither have considerable alcohol presence.
Medium bodied with a nice sharp acidity on the palate. Not at all boozy.
Very drinkable and enjoyable overall. Pretty similar to the 2005, although I understand they’re somewhat different beers.
