Tap at Max’s. Pours lightly hazy rubied brown with no head. Aroma is tart fruits of raspberry, cherry, and plums, earthy hops, cookie and toast malt. Flavor is tart fruits, light hops and bitterness, oak, vinous notes, supporting malt and a dry finish. Medium body and light carbonation.

Aroma is tart but not as much I was expecting. The taste however is another story. Very tasty and impressive for the alcohol.

Draft on tap at Bavarian Lodge (Lisle, IL). Stopped in with the Mrs. and grabbed this really quick. Always feel bad buying these full bottles. Pours a fairly well hazed amber hue, darker middle shows some brown, gentle orange and amber glow, some dulled reddish Fall fire on the edges and bottom. Small offwhite head atop is frothy, mellow lacing as it dies to a loose layer. Aromas show some decent barnyard funk, a faint waft of bandaid is quickly picked up by some sweatsocks, barnyard funk. Gentle tart fruit starts to grow as it settles, some dark and red fruit, cherry and gentle raisin. Melow bready malts, earthy soil and cobwebs, touches of basement. Mellow oak, firm woody and vinous notes meet some more tartness. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, a bit more assertive on the sourness than the nose let on. Sour red berries, stone fruit meet some lactic life, gentle acidic vinegar, firmer oak qualities start to jump in. Dark fruit, touche sof rasin, some warmth washes over the palate. Middle is a bit sweeter, the berry elements combining with some bready and caramel like malt elements. Back into the vinegar, Balsamic feel at times. Some mellow funkiness starts to latch onto the palate, getting more assertive as we enter the backend. Some nice oak, tannic and vanillin elements do some work, funkiness continues to show some life. Vinegar still shows some life, gentle acetone, a bit more dry, woody as we start to finish up. This thing really goes through the motions, showing some decent elements, firmer sourness in the body than the nose let on. A bit of an off nose for me, the beer itself delivers a little more what I was looking for.

Keg at Moeder Lambic- 6th Nov 2013. The barman was bigging this beer up loads so gave it a shot. Nose is full on vinegar with light traces of sweet berry fruits. Taste is mildly intense balsamic vinegar with the barleywine sweetness, stewed red fruits charging through. Loved it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

25 cl. draft @ Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Dark amber red fruits with a big creamy mocha brown head. Nose is nicely balsamic, vinegar styled with some jam & mashed forest fruits in the back. Less jam & more vinegar in a good way than I remember the 2011 being. Taste is balsamic vinegar, tart wood, thick red forest fruits smoothie, pretty tart, wild berries, faint strawberry jam, touch lemon, touch paint sourness. Body is thick mashed red fruits / smooth. Lovely, easy to drink & very delicious, comparable to what I remember the 2011 being like with only minor difference due to some other highlights here & there. Still absolutely wonderful stuff.

On tap at Dutch’s. A somewhat hazy red / brown color. Little off-white head. Lace doesn’t stick. Bigger body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. Dark fruit flavors, wood, light spice. Nice light to moderate tart taste, light bitter. Nice, bigger sour. Alcohol works well here, not distracting at all. Satisfying to sip on slowly during a rainy day.

Draft. Poured a hazy reddish copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour tart fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & tart fruit flavor with a medium to heavy tart & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

Draft to taster at Dutch’s Stinky Cheese & Sour Beer event. Looks alright; not really carbonated though. A cloudy brownish orange with razor-thin white lacing. Smells tart and funky in a Flanders-ish kind of way. Cherry as well. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid beer that (much like most of their beers) could be much better if it were adequately carbonated.

Draft at sb. Pours a murky dark brown with noo real head or lace. Still. Bright vinous and balsamic nose. Creamy medium body, no carb. Juicy blackberry, cherry, minerals, balsamic, and blood orange on the mid palate. Long tangy vinous berry finish.

Draft at Mekong. I’m not going to do this justice here. Clear reddish light brown, very slight head. Aroma is funk and dark cherry. Flavor matches, but there is an amazing complexity here that I simply can’t capture. Touch of vanilla, stone fruit, and a certain richness to the sourness, which is somewhat acetic and balsamic vinegar in nature. Great stuff, just loved it. Could have smelled it alone for an hour.
