On tap at The Birch (Norfolk, VA) during the 2nd Annual 43 Hours Of Dark. Reddish-orange pour with a short and bubbly off-white head. Aroma of soy, apple cider vinegar, and oak. Any misgivings from the initial aroma are quickly put to rest as the flavor is outstanding. Tart cherry and oak are primarily noted. Certainly sour but somewhat approachable for this style. A great sour ale.

Almost no foam .
Smells like a FOB .
Taste is complex, sour , dry , cherries . Like a very nice flemish red ale / old brown ale . Very nice !

750ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Bestillingsutvalget. Tiny, bubbly layer at the top of a clear amber body. Fragile lacing. Dry fruity aroma, bit of farmyard and berries. Dry and tart fruity flavours joined by wood and cheese. Sherry impression. Bone dry ending, tart and sweet. Hidden alcohol. Well built and smooth. Very suitable as an aperitif (Saturday social gathering, Tromsø 11.01.2014).

Pours a soft clean golden amber with one fingee of short lived sandy tan head. Nose is very acidic with notes of sharp fruit, wood, sherry, popcorn,alcohol, and toasted grain. Flavor shows cherry skin and pits, acetic acid, some phenolics, and alcohol. Very dry and light.

Tap at Moeder Lambic. Dark amber colour, very creamy golden head. Aroma is cheesy and funky, bit of gaffer tape, marzipan, solvent and berries. Taste is beautifully smooth, medium sourness. Cream cheese, lightly fruity, really hides the alcohol. Finish is fading tartness which kind of turns into something a little sweet. Bit of a beast. Balsamic elements, but also white wine, and neither come across in a harsh way. Great stuff.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2014 Draft at Brouwer’s for Sour Fest last year. From 8 month old notes. Aroma: Dirt -- poopy dirt. Sweet, tart, funk and vinegar. Appearance: Murky brown, the color of raisin juice. No head at all, no lacing. Taste: Meh [note: I hope my note-taking has gotten better than it was then, because that’s not helpful ...]. Dark fruits; spices, tart, tasty finish. Palate: Slick, full body, no carbonation at all. Syrupy. Overall: Followed a few rounds of Cantillon, so probably not the best time to rate ... well, anything. Will rerate if I happen across this on draft again. But overall, boozy, sour, flat, and not too memorable.
draft at uber, 7/5/2014. Gonna give this another go. Murky red-amber-brown. Ring of white head. Aroma of oak, cherry, vinegar. Earthy, woody. Inviting. I wonder if I got the right beer last time? Lots of cherry. Taste: moderately sweet, amazingly well balanced. Balsamic finish that lasts. Wood, stone fruit, even a hint of chocolate. This is way good. palate: whoa, that’s smooth. Full body, soft carbonation, smooth, luscious, but at the same light and airy. This feels great, soft, excellent. Overall: I’m gal I ordered this again. A few points worth remembering (this is a note to myself, since I’m the only person who is ever going to read this). (1) lots of beers in 1 day following cantillon and a bunch of other sours, is a bad recipe for being able to focus on a beer and really put in a quality rating. Not that it stops me from trying. (2) drinking beers more than one time is awesome. I should remember that trying new stuff is one thing, and unique ticks are alluring, but this is an entirely different experience than last time, and I’m glad I didn’t pass it by. (3) BFM FTW. 3.6 first time, 4.2 this time, but I’m keeping the last rating. It’s the right thing to do this time. Leaving the notes, though.

Draft. Cloudy amber briwn color, thick beige head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of aromatic, floral vanilla and lemon. Taste is rich vanilla liquer and vinous fruit and white wine. Delicious.

On tap at Chez Moeder Lambic in mid November. Inviting fruit acids, dried fruits and vinuous barrel notes on the nose and confirmed in the mouth. Medium bodied. Clear orange-mahogany colored body with a mid sized tanned head. Smooth with a pleasant warmth in the throat.

Unclear matt medium red amber colour with a small, open and fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, tart, berry - fruity, baking yeast, wood, acetone, vinegar. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet, moderate acidic and acetic with a long duration, tart, berry, wood, vinegar, baking yeast. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic and acetone.

Bottled, thanks Bov! Cloudy copper colour, lively head. Intense vinegary oaky nose. Mid sweet with full body and soft mouthfeel. Intense wood, vinegar and red berries. Peppery sour finish. Intense and superbly flavourful.
