I was very underwhelmed by this beer. Aroma is very cherry apple with maybe some cheesy hints. Color is a nut brown with no head. Taste is very apple with some barnyard hints and something weird that must come from the barrel. Palate is very thin and flat, and this kind of ruins the beer for me.

Brun med röd ton i färgen, inget skum. Doftar sur-sött, funky, körsbär, lingon, vinbär, karamell, vinöst, ekfat. Smakar surt, funky, vinöst, lingon vinbär. Vinöst funky öl med fatkaraktär.

Cloudy brown beer, zero head. Zero carbonation smooth palate! Lightly sour beer. Mild sour fruits and well integrated wine and wood. Finishes semi dry. A nice sour because it ain’t too sour and it has vibrant well joined up flavours.

Rating #2100 : This has been sitting around for a while now. A heady sour from the masters at BFM it is a fine beer whose only drawback is the price point. I understand why it costs what it does but it does stretch the budget if you pick up too many with so many local / regional alternatives on the shelves.
Aroma / Appearance - The deep caramel brown base is thick and creamy. As expected it has no head retention. Vinegar, red cherries, and menthol spice up the profile of a sour that holds nothing back. Three or four years of aging has left it in prime condition.
Flavor / Palate - Vinegar rubs against the throat attempting to scrub away previous beers. Chocolate, plums, and tart sweet cherries sparkle as they drag across the palate. The long lasting sour bite is strong and balanced. For special occasions I would not hesitate to pick up more BFM releases. For daily drinking look elsewhere.

Poured into a snifter. TR 5, brewed in May 2008, bottled in January 2009.
3.5 A: Murky amber plum color. No head formed. I never know what score to give appearance when the beer is intentionally flat.
4.5 S: This smells amazing. It’s at least as good as any other variant I’ve had. Strong, rich and vinous red grape. Big hit of mixed berries followed by plum, apple, and plenty of cherry. Tangy lactic fruitiness behind that. Caramel, light toffee, and a big hit of oak with vanilla underneath. This is extremely smooth with all the aromas integrating very well.
4.0 T: The taste is also super complex and powerful, but it has a couple issues. Like some of the other variants, this has a very noticeable tannic astringency. It’s not so bad that it dominates the taste, but it does distract from the better flavors. Big tangy lactic acid twang. Again, very vinous with red grape, berries, cherries, plum, apple, and lime. Caramel, toffe, tobacco, and raisin. Again big oak and mild vanilla. The booze is well hidden.
3.5 M: Medium to heavier medium body. This one does have a bit of carbonation in it, but it’s just barely noticeable. Except for the tannins, this is fairly smooth and somewhat crisp.
4.0 D: Another quality variant. While this one has some issues, it’s still mighty tasty and definitely worth a try.

Bottle via SL... Pours a murkey red color, no head at all... Decent aroma of some tart grapes, strong alcohol. Taste is very nice... slight dark fruit notes, grapes, yeast, slight alcohol presence. Big malt body, sawdust. Not sour but still a very nice sour/wild beer, more of a strong grape tartness to it. Oak presence is nice with out being over the top. Body is light, plenty of carbonation despite the lack of head. Overall; Glad I kept this in the cellar for a few years. For a 11 percent beer this was pretty smooth.

Very bready aroma of currants. Cloudy amber, fine sediment, thin yellow head. Sour apples and cherries. Oak also prominent. Easy carbonation, alcohol well masked by the sourness. Delicious.

Bottle @ 18th RG. Orange amber with dissipating head. Nice sour aroma. High tartness. Nice clean quality with sour finish.

Bottle. Game 6. Caramel brown. Nose/taste of brown sugar, caramel, vinous notes, oak, soured malt and red and black currants. Medium body. Moderately tart. Well balanced.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2012 At high rollers 2012 and again at the Richmond 18th gathering. Fantastic clean woody funky tart, but not too tart. Amazing. acidity is not overly done, more of just a bit of heartburn. I pick up a bit of red wine notes. Complex and well blended. Another wonderful bon chien.

375mL TR3 thanks to BrainLayer. Pours tepid, clear strawberry with bubbles and no head formation. Nose is richer, vinous, mildly sharp acetic/vinegar. Strawberries, muted liquor barrel. Taste is bourbon like, thicker, nicely muted acetic acid. Nice leathery, tart palate. Spicy finish. A big improvement over the VJ2. Great stuff. Mild sage and lavender bitters. Very good.
