COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Silver medal at Soleure’s extreme beer fest 2007. An extreme black beer whose nose goes toward pepper, vanilla, ashes, tobacco and fresh hops. It reaches the palate all in softness, but quickly becomes intensely bitter, though not very dry. Long and satisfying finish.
This Cuvée was created in the honor of the Jurrassian revolutionist Alex Le Rouge. Enjoy this wonderful Cuvée at about 10°-12° Celsius (50°-53°F), with a crunch of bitter Chocolate or a Cigar. Cuvée Alex Le Rouge can be sequestrated for a few years in a cellar. Ingredients: water, barley malts, hops, cane sugar, yeast, Serawak pepper, Russia tea, Bourbon vanilla.

Bottle. Pours almost black with a medium tan head. Aroma of caramel and burnt malts, tart fruit and a chocolate/coffee hint. Flavors of heavily roasted malts, light tart fruits, light chocolate and a hint of pepper. Slightly tart finish with a ashy tobacco note.

Clear dark color, and a good, mostly lasting off-white head. The aroma is moderate, roasted malts, some coffee and also grapes. In the mouth you immediately feel a balanced and pleasant sourness that makes this beer fresh and easy to drink, even with its full body. Again coffee, roasted mats, grapes and chocolate are the main drivers. Lively carbonation, and an average flavor duration. Positively surprised!

Bottle - batch 2008 - connecticut ave beverages - pours a flat dark brown, with a thin white head. Aroma is meaty, peppery, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste is a tad bitter and palate is dry and flat. Meh.

7/25/12. 11.2oz bottle from Grassroots - "Batch 2012." Rich black pour with a big, fluffy brown head (be a little careful). Rich, bitter roasted malts in the aroma with a definite touch of sourness. There’s perhaps a bit of tea and coffee coming through, but the bitterness and sourness seems most present. More complexity in the flavor with milk chocolate, coffee, and vanilla, but that sourness is definitely still there. It’s not bad, but I don’t know if that’s what they were going for.

Very interesting, not the usual imperial stout. Beautiful dark pour with big foamy head. Aroma of chocolate, ash, coffee and corn silage. Sweet as you’d expect, but there’s a clear and lingering sour taste, almost lemon. A good conversation beer, an "experience".

Bottled. Pours black with a small tan head. Nose of yeast, tobacco and vanilla notes. Sweet flavor of toasted malts, chocolate, prunes, raisins, brown sugar and molasses. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and flat to soft carbonation. Dry finish with alcohol notes.

Pours a one finger off-white head that vanishes leaving no lace. Deep mahogany almost black color, ton of yeast left in bottle. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Oak & molasses nose and flavor is smokey oak and burnt molasses, tart finish. Not the usual imp stout. Higher ABV is hidden. $7.99 for a flip top 330ml bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.

Ends with more roasted malt, peppery spice, light vanilla, tart berries, funky yeast, booze and sour and fermented fruit.
