Silver medal at Soleure’s extreme beer fest 2007. An extreme black beer whose nose goes toward pepper, vanilla, ashes, tobacco and fresh hops. It reaches the palate all in softness, but quickly becomes intensely bitter, though not very dry. Long and satisfying finish.
This Cuvée was created in the honor of the Jurrassian revolutionist Alex Le Rouge. Enjoy this wonderful Cuvée at about 10°-12° Celsius (50°-53°F), with a crunch of bitter Chocolate or a Cigar. Cuvée Alex Le Rouge can be sequestrated for a few years in a cellar. Ingredients: water, barley malts, hops, cane sugar, yeast, Serawak pepper, Russia tea, Bourbon vanilla.

330ml Bottle: Aroma of dark malts, pepper, ash, slight tobacco, slight tea, slight roasting, and slight vanilla. Poured black in color with a very large, dense, rocky, brown head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of tart fruit, dark malts, slight pepper, light vanilla, light roasting, slight caramel, and slight tea. Medium body. Slightly chalky texture. Soft carbonation. Acidic, roasted, light caramel finish is a little chalky. 10+%ABV is well hidden.

2011 bottle to stemmed glass Aroma of grape, vinegar, sour cherry, red pepper, black pepper, lactose, but no vanilla. Dark silky brown with a ringed tan head. Taste is red wine, nutmeg, black pepper, beet and a nice sour bitterness at the end. Great beer.

’Jurassic’ imperial stout named after a Swiss revolutionary. Thin, off-white head, colour equally black, no light getting through. Aroma of coffee, pepper, vanilla, tobacco, jute, caramel; taste of candied fruits, liquorice, smokey accent, sourish hint leading to a certain dryness that carries on into the finish due to roasted bitterness, though not very strongly coffee-like. Interesting and not too typical for its style.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, citrus and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, chocolate and caramel finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Pours a dark brownish black on tap with thin ring of tan brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate and roast, sweet molasses and hints of dark earthy fruits. Taste follows, with hints of caramel and a bit of spicy yeast esters. Thick and viscous, but still nice carbonation, no real hint of the booze, pretty darn nice.

Very dark brown body with a light-brown head. Strong and sweet aroma with funky hints. Roasted notes including coffee, chocolate and dark caramel, on a background of fermented fruits and berries. Strong flavour that follows the aroma, with additional alcohol. Moderate sweet initial taste with pretty heavy long-lasting finish. Close to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. An unusual but nice imperial stout.
