3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Clear orange copper pour - I got the first glass off the top ;) - with pillowy white head. Aroma is pretty well dominated by lightly funky yeast notes, some peppery hops, the beer smells quite grainy as well. Barely any hop bitterness to speak of in the taste, tastes more like french biere de garde that is beginning to sour. I was actually surprised that this wasn’t any more sour than it was, we had the 2007 vintage. Palate is this beers strong point, perfectly well carbed and dry. Good beer but not mind blowing, unlike its price.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pour is hazy orange with white head, aroma has notes of some weird cooked veggie, maybe some cherry, some sour cabbage and fruit, some slight bready sourness to it as well. Taste is definitely better but still has notes of some weird cooked fruit, definitely an untintentional sour with some plastic, phenolic tastes. Off for sure, but could tell it could be ok in 2006.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle @ Dan’s house. Cloudy orange appearance with an off white head that disappears quickly. Dull, citrusy, white wine, dental floss nose. Mildly tart, sour, cherry, citrusy, dull hoppy flavor with some weird plastic fruit notes.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured a very hazy light auburn. Smells of cider and a little vinegar. Tasted like cider with vanilla and a cherry highlight at the end. The sourness is moderate and enjoyable.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Trocken, in sehr milden Grundzügen Geuze-artig. Langer herber Ausklang mit der selben milden Würzigkeit, die schon im Antrunk in gleicher Intensität vorhanden war. Vielen Dank an den Doppelbock für den gemeinsamen Test! 8/10/9/10/11/10

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A careful pour produces a clear golden amber colored elixir with a thin bubbly white head that dissipates quickly but leaves a cap on top and some lacing on the sides. Smells of citrus and phenolics, plums, spicy yeast and funk. Taste is tart and fruity with a barnyard edge. Finishes sweet with a bit of astringency and leaves a lingering tart bitterness on the tongue. Crisp carbonation, sticky mouthfeel, medium to thick body. Nice little saison, bier de garde. Tart and fruity I enjoyed this one. If only it wasn’t so pricey.

Cask. Pours hazy brown with a big rich off-white head. Aroma is cheesey hops, herbs, funk, and light citrus. Flavor is slightly tart with citrus and floral hops and a caramel malt. Not sure what the hell this is but I liked it.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml - 2006
A: Poured a hazy/cloudy ruby-ish amber color with a huge off-white head with amazing retention. Leads to a decent amount of lacing.
S: very sour esters. Tart green apples, some sour citrus as well.
T: This hasn’t mellowed much over the past year or so, and if it did it is too hard to tell. Very tart/sour which kind of destroys any flavors coming in. Mostly sour citrus. You can also taste the alcohol right behind the initial sours.
M: Good mouthfeel, carbonation is a little too high. Very interesting palate, sours with a hint of sweetness.
D: very interesting beer. Not quite what I expected but I look sour beers, and this one was very sour. I wouldn’t mind letting one age for a few more years. I think some time will mellow this one out.
