Bottle (330ml) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy orange-amber with an average size diminishing frothy off-white head. Aroma’s weird -- brewed with cocoa? O.K., but I don’t smell it at all, it’s lightly sour along with some malt and maybe spices. Flavour, again, no cocoa and it’s sour. Almost vineagry even. Unpleasant finish. Not good, I dumped the rest.

I get only a slight hoppy aroma off this, but huge floral notes in the taste. Pours amber and mostly clear with a minimal head. Hints of apple in the drink.

Pours hazed gold with chunkies. Aroma of dark fruit, light tart fruit, sweaty funk. Taste has the same light funk with some herbal hop and fruity esters. I didn’t pick up on the cocoa until I read the label more closely and was then able to pick it out very slightly. Medium light body and carbonation. Fairly dry, light tart finish

750 ml bottle at The Lion’s Pride, shared with my wife. Tried to share it with the bartender too, but he politely declined. 2008 vintage. Pours a clear brownish-amber with some spots of sediment and a small off-white head. Aroma of cocoa, funk, oak, overripe plums, apples, allspice, and deep herbal notes. Flavor of toast, spices, cocoa, mixed fruit, caramel malts, pepper, and apple cider. Some light sour funk starts to set in after a while. Almost some vegetal character in there as well. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Very complex and interesting.

Pour is reddish with white head, aroma has notes of slight fruit, sour cherry, very slight DMS but more tart toffee, but no cocoa powder. Taste is interesting with notes of some tart fruit, musty malt with caramel, touch of tart and funk, finishing dry and slighty fruity. Not bad, but definitely faded.

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Amber appearance with with a cream colored head. Mildly tart, slightly citrusy, light caramel malty nose. Dull, tart, citrus fruity, a touch spicy, light caramel malty flavor.

Bottle. Pours hazy-ish amber yellow. Smells funky and tart with loads of fruit. The cocoa is a little more subtle but its there. Interesting. Not my favorite, but certainly worth trying.

Bottle. 24.5 oz. (2008). Split with Sean. Pours apple cider brown with a softly bubbled, light white head which fades quickly and leaves a shimmering clear surface. Aroma of apple cider, fresh doughnuts, cinnamon, and slight honey and cocoa notes. Very cidery in the flavor, with some really subtle vanilla and lemon citrus in the finish. Juicy, slightly tarty finish, with huge apple cider notes. Advertised as a sour, but not very sour at all. Not much of the cocoa powder either. Still, a solid, drinkable brew.

The beer pours syrup amber with a small white head. The aroma starts out almost like a light sour aroma and then faint notes of cocoa hit you. The flavor is good - light bitter hops almost like a pilsener with faint cocoa notes - but not great. The body is a bit light, it’s screaming to be soured up.

bouteille 75cl, # 276, anno 2005. ambre, mousse beige épaisse. Arôme de chocolat qui est comme décrit et malgré l’age reste présent. La levure donne a cette bière un profile de ferme/basse-court qui rappelle la bière de garde. Au palais, le profile du houblon citronné est toujours bien là et le houblon Challenger donne une fine note d’épice qui vient agrémenter le malt et chocolat qui reste bien présent. Cette bière reste sèche en bouche tout en étant aromatique et balancée par le chocolat qui a un côté poudreux.

Sampled at the SLC Holiday Tasting. Cloudy amber gold pour with a foamy head. Aroma of tart fruit, caramel malt and spice. Flavor is light funk and vinegar, with some fruit and spice coming through. Okay, but not great.
