A - Served a cloudy red color with a touch of brown and very little head and no lace.
S - Aroma is a mix of sour cherries, oak, vanilla, and a bit of booze.
T - Starts off with a mix of sour and tart cherries with some oak and vanilla in the background. Through the middle, some more sourness comes through alongside some caramelized malts and some light booze. The sourness mellows a bit as the beer finishes with some more oak coming through.
M - Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Feels smooth with a tart and sour finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nice sourness and tartness from the cherry. Could have used a touch more body and carbonation.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Braudog (4606) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Bottle, with a swing top. Barley a whisper at the opening, instead of the anticipated "pop!" Hopefully that’s not a bad omen. Pours dark chestnut brown with absolutely zero head. The aroma hints at more sour than anything. It drinks much like some sours, as well ... essentially flat, but full bodied in a viscous way. There’s a certain sour aspect to it, with a medicinal twist. The finishing sweetness must come via the rum barrels. I’m sad to say, I’m not a fan at all. (#4603, 5/23/2012)
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 jaymtee (14) - Georgia, USA - MAY 23, 2012
Poured from a 33cl swing top. Good pop on opening, then a small head finishing to just a ring. Not surprising for over 10% I guess. Aroma is fruity and vinegary with a hint of oak. Taste quite sour and complex. It is a bit over the top at first but is getting better and better with each sip. Very low carbonation and mouth feel. Glad I tried it! Not for the weak of palate!
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 durhambeer (2096) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAY 22, 2012
Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales in Asheville. Jesus, what’s going on here? Nose of raisin, rum, vegetal grossness and nail polish, though some redeeming notes. Some woody notes. Tastes worse.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 crosamich (199) - Naples, Florida, USA - MAY 21, 2012
didn’t find much in the way of rye character. The rum aspect didn’t do it for me either. Pretty easy drinking but the flavors don’t meld for me.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 rdixon77 (82) - Georgia, USA - MAY 18, 2012
Old rating - Interesting barley wine to say the least. Dark muddy brown pour with very little head. The aroma is a dark fruit tart. Taste was all over the road...the vinegary tartness, the dark fruits, caramel, yeast, the rum, the alcohol that was there. Did not get too much of the earthiness that I would figure from the rye. Very heavy and sludgy, little carbonation. Lots going on, which I like, but still feels a little bit all over the place. Not quite a barley wine, not quite a straightforward sour. I would love to try again.

Bottle. No fizz, upon popping. No head, deep amber to red hue. Murky/muddy. Aromas are of rum, esters, dark fruit, blueberries, currant, lactic acid, koolaid, alcohol. Flavors are of currants, overripe plum, dark fruit, lactic acid, rum, koolaid, light umami. Medium acetic, barrel, and tannin. Syrup, no carbonation, over ripe fruit lasting and quite warming. Messy.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Butters (3013) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Sampled this on draft at Trappeze in Athens. A little murky orange/brown pour as it was coming from the dregs of the keg. Interesting tart dark fruity sourness, and only hints of the rum/wood barrel. made for a tasty sipper though. HId the abv well. I was particularly in the mood for something sour, so this was quite a nice treat, but still, i know it wasn’t amazing as far as sours go.
