awaisanen (1116), Irvine, California, USA Apr 14, 2008 From a 12oz Bottle. Dark brown, mostly opaque pour with a slender finger of creamy tan head. Thick aroma that wafts forth plumes of hammy smoke, charred maple, and smoldering campfire. Some roast malt adds a robust layer of coffee and chocolate for more depth beyond the bold smoke. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a creamy texture. Flavors of dark chocolate and campfire brewed coffee balance well with the heavy smoke. More delicate flavors of toasted coconut, vanilla, and mild toffee malt add a welcome layer complexity. Great mouthfeel and impressive smoke intensity. Flavors of coconut, char, and clean hardwood smoke round out the finish.
after4ever (1652), Brier, Washington, USA Jul 25, 2008 330. Thanks, Dany! Pours black with a dense but brief fizzy, creamy tan head. Nice blended nose of roast, campfire, licorice, and even a tiny bit of peppery, rauchy bacon. Medium, creamy body. Tingling carb that’s not quite stinging but fairly present. Dark roasty body, campfire and ash on the mid-palate, along with bits of chocolate and roast. Really delicious. xnoxhatex (778), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 21, 2008 Bottle thanks to Drewbeerme. Hazy dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma is all smoke with some foriegn meat of unknown origin. Flavor is a lot of burned wood and smoked meats but there is a good amount of sweet dark malt that comes through as well. Medium body and a good amount of carbonation. A nice smokey beer that leaves a lingering smoke in the mouth several glasses of water afterwords. holdenn (1103), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 1, 2008 12oz bottle thanks to drewbeerme for sharing this one. Pours brown with a beige head. Nose of ham roasted over a campfire made of burning hickory. Lots of the campfire, hickory, peat, and charred malts in the flavor. I’d like the smoke to come off a little stronger and knock me out like the great smoked beers do. However this is a fine smoked beer, I’m glad to have had a chance to try. ogglethorp (752), Ohio, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle shared at DLD 08. Pours dark brown with a soapy beige colored head. Aroma is peat malt, smoke, roast. Flavor is peat, campfire, roasted coffee, sweet malts. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finished sweet and smokey. Great smoked beer.
