The_Jester (500), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jan 13, 2008 341 mL bottle. (2007 vintage). Pours blacker than hell, with a few bubbles around the rim. The aroma is roasted malt and a lot of sweet chocolate. Exactly the same can be said for the flavour. I couldn’t detect any alcohol. There’s a little grainy bitterness on the tongue at the end. This beer is incredibly creamy smooth, and becomes even smoother as it warms. Great stuff.
mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 31, 2008 [1253-20080404] 341mL bottle. Roasted bandaid aroma has coffee and caramelized molasses malt. Dark dark red brown body with a medium-lasting creamy dark red-tan head. Very roasted dark coffee molasses flavour with some continued bandaid notes. Full body is dry and thick. Good, interesting with its thick oomphiness.
(c/o tupalev) bitbucket (1572), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle, thanks after4ever! Pours opaque black with a lacy brown head. Full body, light carbonation. Sweet coffee, chocolate and brown sugar taste with a softly bitter finish. pintbypint (881), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 25, 2008 341ml brown bottle from Goldorak, guessing this is the 2007 vintage since abv on bottle states 7.9%. Super black pour, tight but compact light brown head, creamy. It settles down quite a bit to a light foam on the surface. Rich cocoa aroma. Flavour is dark coffee with sugar, caramel, molasses and chocolate syrup. Finish is roasty, dry, mild bitterness. Full clingy, slick body. Sticks to the glass. Mild, tight carbonation. Quite nice lower abv version of the style. ratman197 (2360), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jun 25, 2008 Bottle (thanks to Kevin for sharing) poured a translucent black with red highlights and a small diminishing amber head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt and cinnamon. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of coffee, bitter chocolate and dark fruit with a smooth lingering bittersweet finish.
Kinda dissappointing for an Impy Stout! railcat1 (491), Kissimmee, Florida, USA Jun 9, 2008 This was a bottle i had gotten from a friend who brought it back fron canada and gave me for a birthday present,i had never heard of it befire and was a surprise to it it poured thick and black with almost no head and had hints of lots of chocolate and was rich and creamy and lots of roasted malts not a bad beer and not to strong for a IPS,but was well received.CHEERS!
