brewblackhole (1220), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Jun 28, 2008 Wow,the alcohol is literally blowing off this brew, monstrous choclate based creamy alcohol, dominating, unfortunately alos just a touch of rubberiness, the taste is also ric chololate and alcohol saturated sweetness, but again with that slight rubberiness, which indicates that eventually the yeast was overworked in trying to convert all this sugar and started to implode, even with that slight defect,an enjoyable brew,Thanks Kingpin after4ever (1632), Brier, Washington, USA May 8, 2008 12-oz, capped and foiled. Thanks, Glouglouburgp! Black. Thin tan head that falls quickly to a slim rim, leaving intermittent lace. Big bold chocolate and dark pitted tree fruit on the nose, very assertive. Rich, creamy, flat body that goes watery here and there. A little too smooth to be really complex in mouthfeel. Fruit, chocolate, caramel, and toffee on the mid-palate. Quite sweet for sure. Mild, somewhat lingering white sugar-y, chocolate-y finish. goldtwins (3672), Nesconset, New York, USA Mar 21, 2008 Poured an almost clear deep ruby color with a thin beige head. The aroma is of oxidized sweet fruity malt. It smelled almost like liquor when I popped the cap. Black grapes and dark cherry. Pretty fruity. Fruity flavor with dark grape juice and plums. Some light oxidation but less than the aroma. A touch of pepper and alcohol bitterness on the finish. Very warming. Medium to full bodied with a silky quality. Beerlando (1135), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 11, 2008 Pours extremely dark crimson to chestnut in color. A small, foamy, off-white head recedes quickly, while soapy spots retreat slowly towards the body. Rich scents of caramel, figs, raisons and vanilla are seemingly steeped in bourbon, with just the faintest remnants of some peppery, floral hops. The nose is really quite nice, with the bourbon and vanilla working quite well with the fruity components. Flavors fall just a hair short, probably due to age more than anything else, as this one is showing hints of oxidation. Bourbon, vanilla and candied sugar remain strong, but the fruits seem to fade away slightly once you get past the aroma. This feels like a hybrid barleywine/American strong to me. The palate falls somewhere in between the two, yet is lacking carbonation (apparently, this was the intention, but I don’t care for it). Overall, very solid and indeed a bit underrated. Very interesting brew. Enjoyable, if not a bit to alcoholic for what it delivers. KnutAlbert (2122), Oslo, Norway Mar 11, 2008 Bottle shared by larsga.
Reminds me of a barley wine. Caramel, lots of malt, lots of hops, warming alcohol.
