JMFG (1086), Florida, USA Aug 14, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Dark ruddy-brown color and thin light tan head that quickly fades. Sweet aroma with an odd licorice/herbal note along with some general malt spiciness. Sweet taste - no real weirdness in the flavor, save for some light sarsaparilla aftertaste. Odd but not bad. dmac (833), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Aug 14, 2008 341 ml bottle from glouglouburp, thanks Dany. Pours a reddish brown with the loudest, yes I said loudest, head that I have ever heard. It sounded like a soda with all the fizzing going on, fizzy yellowish/beige head. Aroma of raisin, toffee, peat, hint of smoke, earth, rum and a touch of spearamint. Body was on the thinner side of the medium scale with light carbonation and a slick mouthfeel. Flavor of light smoke from the alcohol, caramel and toffee, raisin, earthy and spicey. For a brewery that isn’t available in the US I am quickly becoming one of the top raters of Bieropholie so keep em coming Dany. tiggmtl (4169), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 12, 2008 Lots of sweet buttery butterscotch in the nose along with strong anis and subtler suggestions of chocolate and brown sugar. Occasional notes of light hay. Very dark and hazy ruby-brown body is topped by a fizzy, large bubbled, tan head that recedes quite rapidly to partial cover. Flavour is more caramel than butterscotch and for that I am quite thankful. Anis/licorice flavour is also quite strong. Overall flavour is sweet malt offset by spices with some roasty dark malt character emerging towards the finish. Medium body verges on slickness in texture but this is offset by fairly prickly, sharp carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Rahman, Jun-08). Sammy (3023), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2008 This is spot on the style, but was only minor amount of smoke. Well balanced, so sweetness was largely substitutd by spices such as star anise. I liked it, it was well drinkable and satisfying. A bit drying. Nice dark colour with wavy lace, but only a bit of initial beige head. mgermani (583), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 27, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a lasting ring of tan foam. Aroma is unbelievably strong - butterscotch! Sweet and buttery, malty and inviting. Tastes likewise - very very sweet, with that nice hint of astringency. Peaty, light chocolate, licorice. Wow! Bold. Light carbonation and thin body. This beer has a LOT to say, and it speaks quite clearly. Thanks to Boutip for the trade!
