presario (2768), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jun 20, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy orange. Thin head. Hoppy alcohol aroma. Dry. Strong hops and alcohol. A nice sipper. Diogène (473), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 2, 2009 Bottle. Hazy brown with a medium foamy off white head. Aroma is sweet, very malty, candy like, very fruity, mainly grapes, and bubblegum. Flavor is very fruity with sweet malt, alcohol and hops. Medium to full body. I’ve had it a few months ago and it got betterwith age. Fred82 (187), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 30, 2009 341ml bottle 4.59$ at Grand Duc. Amber colored with smal head no retention. Some carbonation appeared on the glass after pouring. Aroma is very sweet, very very sweet. some hops also. Hints of apricots and prunes. Mouthfell is quite flat but not too bad. Taste is sweet, hoppy, light bitterness, prunes. Very rich beer. This is a nice beer but not really what I like. Too much prunes/apricot stuff. Rating #105 Lubiere (3966), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 13, 2009 A dark orange amber ale with a thin dark off white head. Aroma of hops and rising bread dough, lightly vinous, and fruity notes, some figs. In mouth, a rich malt with mineral notes, British hops, sustained light bitterness, and roastyness. Alcohol warmth in final. A nice barley wine. Tasted Nov. 2008 bedainedebiere (194), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada Mar 11, 2009 I feel this is a very interesting, even intriguing beer. There’s no beer like that in Québec. It is an expensive beer, the most expensive beer of Bieropholie, I think, at 4,29$ the 341 ml bottle (Peluso and Grand Duc) and is hard to find anywhere else. The aroma is like a sweet really delightful candy but you can smell the powerful sugary and hoppy flavors coming. It’s a very bitter, very hoppy beer, indeed. It’s somehow caramelised, with a great texture, although my tongue get a strange tingling, maybe due to the power hop bitterness. It has a long, infinite bitter-sweet after taste. Maybe a little under-rated on this site or maybe the intended snobish purity doesn’t mark high altogether. I like it, still. MiP (8075), Flensburg, Germany Jan 28, 2009 Bottle, 8%. Fruity, vinous aroma. Cloudy red colour. The flavour is fruity, slightly sweet. A little vinous note, hint of vanilla. Syrupy mouthfeel. OK, but I expect a lot more from this ABV. Glouglouburp (2573), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jan 22, 2009 In short: A sweet and floral strong ale of some kind. Unusual and interesting.
How: Bottle, many times, from fresh to 6 months old, not much change
The look: Clear redish golden body topped by a medium beige head
In long: An unusual nose of sweet pastry and flowers, like a baklava in a tulip field. Sweet body with lots of honey. Fruity notes kept to a minimum but by focussing a bit I got some apricots, citrus and even some unexpected bananas. Honey morphed into caramel as the beer warmed up. A whole lot of floral hops provides an aromatic flower juice. Finish is unexpectedly dry, something about the yeast? I don’t know what dries it out but it does turn that oddity into something quite drinkable. Citrus on the come-back. Mouthfeel is smooth but full. Gets some extra points for being original. The beer is good but overall it is more intriguing than it is good. Nothing wrong with that, after all that’s how I get most girls in bed. Viper666 (541), Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada Jan 17, 2009 Bouteille 341ml.
