Draught at the brew pub. Tar in the nose. Very stylish. A good interpretation of the style with plenty of character. I really enjoyed this beer.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 beeR (60) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 27, 2008
Draught at the brewpub.
As a lot of (wonderful) italian craft beers, it could be considered a "reappraisal" of the style it’s supposed to be a member. More spicy than a regular stout, both in the aroma and taste and less or anyway lighter notes of chocolate and coffee. Too mild in my opinion. A spicy liquorice stands out.
Classic stout creamy, tan and dense head but quite thin. Anyway It takes minutes to fall down. Black and clear. The body is too light, I’d say almost watery. I would like something more.
The taste adds hop bitter notes to the spicy ones. Mild roasted malt bitterness.
As I said it’s an "Italian" exemple of the style, and I like the italian way to experiment and the originality. But it’s not my favourite beer by one the my favourite brewer.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 MartinT (6340) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 9, 2008
My Bottom Line:
Lazy chocolate and molasses sweeten the confused roasted malts in this flat and quite possibly improperly-served Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is no head at all to decorate the dark brown.
-Carbonation is so dead it makes it quite difficult to know what they were attempting here.
-The pumpernickel bread flavors throughout were pleasant.
-Rising roasted malt and hop bitterness creates a quenching ending.
-I really need to try this again as I know from other beers that this brewery can brew very good stuff.
On tap at HOP, Milano.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - MAR 15, 2006
Draught at the brewpub, July 2005, 8-5-8-3-15=39 Dark color; creamy head. Very nice aroma: roasted malt, cappuccino, chocolate; harmonious. Very good taste, well brewed and balanced, with malt, caramel, roasted malt, dry liquorice. The final is bitter, but below expectations. Original; creamy; milky. Very good.
