3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - FEB 11, 2012
Bottle by mail order from Umano liquor store in Kanazawa. Deep golden color, a bit towards bronze, with a huge, very fine head. Slightly cloudy. Hoppy, yeasty aroma: lemon, earth, light honey. Reminds me of Nagahama beers in Japan. Spicy, yeasty flavor, earthy hops, lemon, bread. Yeast is slightly funky and the overall effect is very earthy. Nice, but I prefer a golden to be a little cleaner yeast-wise.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Benjii (2395) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 1, 2011
Bottle at Craig’s ’need some cupboard space tasting.’ Poured a clear blonde colour with a thick white head. Aroma of lemon, white pepper, yeast and barley. Flavours of musty hay, caramel, barley and yeast again. A little thin with a foamy mouth-feel, moderate carbonation and a light CO2 prickle.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - AUG 8, 2011
Bottle bought at GBBF 2011 and consumed at home on my last day of my summer holiday. Hazy lightish gold colour with lasting thick white head. Some hop and some malt on aroma, reminds me of smelling hay. Some fresh yeast character as well. Fullish in mouth. Decent hop bite on finish. So many golden ales turn out boring, but this is a good thirst quencher with enough hop bite on the finish to make it interesting. Really quite yeasty and haylike on the aroma though. Grassy hop aroma I guess. Yes quite pleasant, but then I guess just a bit too much yeasty character.
