A stout brewed with English yeast, German malts and Swiss hops. Blackbier was awarded the silver medal at the European Beer Star awards 2007 & gold in 2009 for the Dry Stout category. It is heavier and sweeter than most dry stouts. Typically, roast and chocolate malt aromas dominate…maybe a hint of coffee? With a full and smooth mouth feel, the strong hop and roast malt bitterness is balanced by rich malt sweetness. Three different roast malts combined with a pilsner malt base result in a complex, black beer. The finish is long and roasty but not harsh.

Bottle from Drinks of the World. Dark black body with foamy, tan head. Nose is licorice, malty, oily. Taste is similar of coffee, malts and licorice - and molasses - super creamy texture. Pretty good stout.

Bottle at Café des Amis. A nice coffee aroma is present throughout nose, mouth and palate. Some caramel, but a bit watery. And pleasantly dry.

(bottle) black in colour with a creamy light-brown head. aroma of brown sugar, some roasted malts and hazenuts, quite ashy, with a very light touch of caramel and vanilla. flavour is mostly the same, roasted malts, ash and dark chocolate, slightly oxidized and metallic, with a touch of sugar icing, yeast and a light roasted-bitter finish. light- to medium-bodied with average carbonation.

Brown color with small tan head. Aroma of coffee, a bit of fruits, chalk. Taste is weirdly balanced towards fruitiness and chalkiness. Not as watery as many stouts. Okay, but does not live up to Bier Factory’s standards.

Malt licorice aroma. Pours dark impenetrable black with a tiny tan head. Tastes of chalk and pumpernickel and coffee. Flat mouthfeel. Sour long finish. Well made but I expected more.

Pitch black with little light brown foam. The smell is roasty with a little coffee. The taste is a bit watery but quite roasty as well. Nice matching carbonation and a solid aftertaste. A good stout, but I don?t favor the style very much.
