Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of pale malt, Belgian yeast, slight spice, slight dust, and light fruit. Poured yellow/gold in color with a small, creamy, dense, white head that lasted throughout. Slightly hazy. Sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is heavily sweet and a hint tart. Tastes of pale malt, grain, Belgian yeast, fig juice, candi sugar, fruit, light funk, slight tartness, and slight banana. Light to medium body. Thinish, then slightly sticky texture. Average carbonation. Light funk, pale malt, fruit, Belgian yeast, grain, and slight tart finish is heavily sweet and lightly dry.

Normal service resumed. 750ml corked bottle from Noel Cuvelier’s. Left the Schaerbeekse in the fridge thinking it might be a bit hardcore for Octo, and this was just a bog standard yeasty blonde...far from it. Foggy orange-amber veiled with sediment under a receding tuft. Funky horse and barrel aroma bursting with lemon, cheesey old hops, wheat sharpness and mildew. Shock of lime juice, hoseblanket and cream cheese with the first sip; lemony acidity mellowing into lovely tangy oak and biscuit notes. Maybe some of that creaminess is the fig, which I would never have dreamt was actually an ingredient. It works seamlessly. Great beer for pussies like me who enjoy the lambic taste but can’t handle the hard stuff.

Gusher. Pulled the cork and beer went everywhere. Pours hazy orange with thick, fluffy white head. Aroma is musty. Taste has light sourness and notes of spices. Flowery finish. Different and decent.

Appearance: cloudy orange caramel with a nice frothy head that lasts awhile; rich lacing. Aroma: yeast, raisins and definitely figs, with good fresh-baked bread notes; as it warms, the musty and funky herbal notes shine. Taste: sour caramel apples, sweet tart candies; a chewy, beery, wheaty middle; as it warms, some saison-style funk and herbs, with clove in the forefront. Finish: furry, fuzzy on the tongue; the saliva glands went on overdrive; sour and tangy fruit and yeast gives way to a real wheat beer finish. Notes: Incredible complex. Came from rare beer of the month club, and their paper was very helpful in identifying some of the flavors and aromas. I love lambics, saisons, and Belgian wheat beers. This beer was like an equal mix between all three styles. As it warmed, it got even more complex and that’s where the saison notes really came out.

From bottle at Poechenellekelder
Appearance : Hazy amber with a huge head
Aroma : Spicy and malty. Wild fruits. Lots of bananas
Taste : Spicy and fruity. Some wild fruits.
Overall : Interesting beer but according to Joris it was not fresh enough and it can be much better. I guess I’ll have to try it again !

On tap at Beachwood BBQ - Seal Beach, CA. Super perfume-like, spicy nose with lots of floral, cologne and fragrance type aromas. Pours a pale-amber-gold, hazy with lots of clean white head. Flavors are messy to me. Lots of pithy vegetal planty characters, some funky Brett that’s got some yeasty off-flavors, and some odd spiced flavors. It’s very sweet and astringent to me. The hop flavor is peculiar and earthy. I consider this beer messy and just not all that drinkable.
