4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Benjii (1686) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 29, 2011
75cl, 2004 bottle at Kulminator. Pours a golden colour with a lovely thick, tight white head that lasts to the end. A few yeasty floaties. An aroma of figs with some sour notes, a little horse-blanket, some lemon and barley. Flavours similar with figs upfront, tart lemon, caramel and barley again. Moderate carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel. Nicely tart with a lemony fig linger. I love this beer!

Not much fig in it but it is detectable. I was looking for a super figgy beer. A very excellent beer. Seems more like a sour or a gueuze. Beautiful color like butterscotch liquid. Lemony tart. Sweetness on the back of the tongue going down.

Hazy amber with a great head, looking appetizing as all the Blaugies beers (giving the same excitement when uncorking also).Vinous aroma, almost geuze-like, lemony freshness meeting oak woodiness. Lots of lemon flavours, some yeastiness, oaky vanilla, talcum-powder dryness like in a Girardin. Very fizzy, prickling the tongue. Complex, yet refreshing. One of the beers that convinces you of the supremacy of Belgian brewing!

Extremely dense, hazy body. Effervescent; thick active head. Musty backyard aroma of wet autumn leaves. Medium body. Soft flavor - very mild cheese, light tartness, orange peel. Dusty, yeasty. Very drinkable. This is a fucking bad ass saison.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 TAR (2214) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - NOV 17, 2003
Foggy golden. Fluffy, large-bubbled dusty-white head. Fragrant, farmy aroma of lemon juice, hay, fresh flowers, earth, sponge cake, melon, and perfume. Beautifully full, yet at the same time, airy, musty, and flowery. Perfectly placed lightly spicy yeast and zingy hops. Soft medium body. More prickly than it is airy. Spicy start transitions beautifully into an elegant middle of fresh hop leaf, perfume, and flowers. Finishes round, mellow and highly appetizing with a persistently spicy, earthy quality concluding with a light doughy yeast, spicy hop tingle. The aroma is exquisitely mellow, touting its clean yeast character and well-utilized hop profile with fervency. I’m tempted to call this a Saison. It’s very farmy, elegantly funky, and perfumey. Another stunner from these garage-based brewers. Give me a plate of mussels and I’m good to go.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Probiere (992) - Iowa, USA - JUN 16, 2005
Fluffy and abundant carbonation tickles the nose with tiny pinpricks then settles into a warm mouthbuzz as it warms. Medium, mineralized, soft and slippery body. Aroma of prickly pears, figs, bananas, dough, yeast, salt, flowers, a bit of funk like a slightly damp musty root cellar in the chill fall, musk?, and sweet honey-like malt. Taste is warm, round, yeasty, fruity, some sweet herbal/spice notes, and lots of sweetness nicely balanced by some peppery acidity and light funk. Finish is long, sweet, and smooth, with an herbal fruity aftertaste. Impressive and drinkable, a lovely beer.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 detroiter (958) - Euphoria, Minnesota, USA - JAN 13, 2007
Pours a hazy and effervescent copper amber, topped by an inch or so of creamy off-white foam. Sweetish fruity aroma.
Tart and tangy flavor, with a shot of not-quite-sweet fruitiness, perhaps a green apple flavor? Malt flavor on the dry side. Herbal yeast, herbal hops, and a touch of rhubarb and citrus. Very much like a saison, though one without any barnyard funk. Body just under medium, almost fizzy carbonation.
