COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ale brewed with fig juice. A traditional style named for John Darby, preacher of temperance whose parishioners were oddly moved by a "soft drink" they insisted was just fig juice...

Bottle. Copper colored with a big ivory head and lively carbonation. Skunky hop aroma with sweet fruit notes. Thinly flavored. Somewhat yeasty with a slight fruitiness that I cannot necessarily say is figs or not. Flavor seems very soft and almost not there; like drinking wet carbonated air.

500 ml bottle in Germany. Warning, cork explosion, this stuff spewed from the bottle for a good five minutes afterwards as well. Pours a very hazy golden yellowish color with a foamy long lasting white head. The aroma is very hoppy with lemon and saisony type hints to it. A tiny bit of malt comes through the lemons. The flavor comes on with a smooth earthy grassy dirt note that slowly progesses into a figgy hop finish that lingers. Citrus notes are very present through the whole thing. Hmmm not really my style.

Bottle poured into a Blaugies tulip. Pours a moderate orange color with a white head and a bit of lacing on the way down. The nose carries some strange phenolics and a bit of spice. Light fruit there with a touch of malt. The flavor is similar, and is a bit off-putting. Light-medium body with crisp carbonation. No true yeast or hop character, and what is there isn’t all that appetizing. Not a fan.

Bottle. Skunk aroma. Funky taste with skunky flavor that ruined this beer for me. I don’t know why they use these damned green bottles.

Foam breached the bottle upon opening. Pours a light cloudy orange with an enormous billowing frothy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweaty, horsey, stinky cheese with a persistent winey character and an underlying fig character. I wouldn’t have known it was there if it had not been written on the label. Clearly infected bottle. Just nasty stuff. Pedio and acetobacter. I want my $8 back. I’ll re-rate if I try it again.
