COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ale brewed with fig juice. A traditional style named for John Darby, preacher of temperance whose parishioners were oddly moved by a "soft drink" they insisted was just fig juice...

375 ml bottle. Medium-sized white head. A lot of carbonation makes the beer shoot out of the bottle. Rich grape, apricot and hop aroma. Smooth texture and a mouthfeel with light fruity flavours. Figs. Some bitterness. Cork, and a light sour character.

Dark orange body with a big foamy white head. Yeasty aroma with some dust, dark cherries and a touch of barnyard as well. Lightly tart, some wheat, cherries and figs. Finishes dry. I detected more cherry flavor rather than figs, but either way this was very enjoyable.

Pours a golden orange with a thick pillowy head. Damp earthy odors abound, some barnyard and waaaaay in the back some spicy yeast. Dusty yeast flavour, slightly tart with more malt notes showing up as it warms. Briskly carbonated, full mouthfeel. Another good one from Blaugies.

Pours amber with a decent off white head. Smells pf figs (duh!), sweet malt, some citrus, spices and pepper. Tastes of figs, some raisins, lots of floral and wildflower hints. Palate is thick and oily. Finish is spicy with hints of pepper and figs. Very unusual but enjoyable.

Cloudy orange gold, towering frothy white head. Interesting aroma of cloves and yeast. Slightly must yeast, spicey (anise, marzipan), and lightly fruity. Very interesting, very drinkable, delicious.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2006 What a rustic and happy beer! I still don’t get any fig anywhere, but I’m not worried about it in the least.
Light amber-gold color, clear with a large, frothy, off-white mostly lasting head.
Aromas are dreamy barn-yard: malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, brown rice and cookie; hoppy with light-to-moderate herbs, straw and lemon zest; yeasty with light notes of dough, moderate horseblanket and barnyard, trace band-aid; miscellaneous notes of light spicy alchs, milk, starchy banana and clove.
The flavor is moderately bitter, lightly sweet and moderately tangy-acidic with a long, lightly acidic, lightly bitter, warm finish.
Palate is nice:body is light, the texture is watery-to-velvety and the carbonation is lively.

750ml green bottle from A-1 To-Go in Gardiner. Pours a deep golden hazy body with an inch or so of off-white head. Smells like orange, lemon, spice, apple. Tastes citrusy, slightly malty, yeasty, slightly spicy. Rather dry. Mouthfeel is somewhat aqueous with moderate carbonation. Finishes rather clean, surprisingly. Tasty and complex and fairly drinkable. A solid Belgian, but not sure it was worth the 14$ price tag.
