COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made in the tradition of artisan brewers, Sans Culottes is a blonde beer sur lie. Probably the best bière de garde for the uninitiated to start with. Packed in a 75 cls bottle with a wired-down cork, Sans Culottes sports a brilliantly eye-catching label showing a revolutionary soldier proudly wearing his pantalons, having wisely forsaken his culottes for the coming struggle.

Bottle shared by ryan. Heavily oxidized, about a year past its best by date. Still not bad though. Pours a clear slightly hazy orange yellow with a thin white head. Dusty malt aroma, slightly nutty. Moderately sweet and peppery. Malty and a bit funky. Bitter finish.

Bottle: Poured a hazy light yellow color ale with a super large foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of light funky notes with solid medium sweet malt backbone. Taste is also sweeter then I would have expected with good notes of light barnyard yeast. Body is quite full with great bottle conditioning and great carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Well brewed thought maybe a tad too sweet for my taste.

(Rating #3470)

Light, soft and frothy beer. Notably sweet with a creamy sumpuosness. Very moorish lip smacker of a beer.

Cork finished 75 cl champagne bottle, best before date of 01.06.2014. Pours dark straw color with slight haze from bottle sediment. Bright white, persistent, pillowy head. Aroma of grassy malt, some leather, and spice in background. Taste is primarily musty and earthy, and spicier than aroma. Complex baking spice character, presumably from yeast. Not nearly to the level of a belgian, but more than I expected. Some bready malt that is nicely balanced with hop bitterness. Some dried fruit in there as well - to complex for me to pick out though. Little hop flavor or aroma. Lively carbonation, light to medium mouthfeel with a long finish.

750ml from IPB.
Appearance : Clear pale yellow with a small head.
Aroma : Honey with crisp malt. Some yeast. A bit floral.
Taste : Malt and grain with some honey. Weak taste. Finish yeasty and a bit floral. Low bitterness.
Overall : A bit too much floral. A bit coring overall. Not my type of beer I guess.

Pours a blonde color with a great head and some lace. The aroma is a touch funky but that fades in seconds. There is some honey and mild breadiness with a graininess and some subtle floral notes. As it warms alfalfa is a pretty strong character of the aroma as well. The flavor is dry and spicy with some earthiness and grassiness with bits of fruitiness and mild hoppiness sneak in. It’s got that baguette and honey sweet maltiness that I love in Biere de Garde but that character seems fairly intensified in this one.

750mL. Aroma initially gives a Fantomyness, but it fades quickly leaving just the underlying biere de garde. Aroma has the malt character the perfect blend of old/bready/toasty/sweet maltiness so key to biere de garde. Bit of hops still there in the flavor.

Clear medium gold pour, white head. Toffee, musty malt, fruit, pear, and herbal hops.
