COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made in the tradition of artisan brewers, Sans Culottes is a blonde beer sur lie. Probably the best bière de garde for the uninitiated to start with. Packed in a 75 cls bottle with a wired-down cork, Sans Culottes sports a brilliantly eye-catching label showing a revolutionary soldier proudly wearing his pantalons, having wisely forsaken his culottes for the coming struggle.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2003 Heavily carbed, which is a bit annoying. Not much aroma that I can detect. This is supposed to be La Choulette's masterpiece, and I do agree that it's quite tasty. Better than La Bavaisienne. A fairly subtle flavor, semi-mild. A delicious, not terribly complex, blonde beer.

Nice, easy flavor and a good sample of the style although I’d like a bit more spice... rather than floral. Need to try again, although not easy to find.

Excellent, champagne-like pour with nice golden color and no significant, lasting head. Powerful vinous aroma while pouring develops into a piney, fruity, caramel nose. Fizzy at first, but as it warms, nice mouthfeel. Great hop character w/o much bitterness, woody, spicey, almost chocolatey at times with a spicy, licorice tinged finish. Nice sweet/dry balance. Really sings as it warms up.

Best before May, 03. Odd looking bubbles that form well-retained, creamy chunked foam. Hazy blonde color. Aroma is most unique, including berries, medicine, alcohol, tonic water, spice, and barnyard notes. Mouth burning effervescence. Moderately complex flavors of grass, candied malts, and a firm, herbal malt backdrop. Spices and nuts become evident as this warms. Finishes dry and very long with medicine, tonic edge, and malt lingering. Not a world classic, but this will most certainly suffice for the Summer.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2006 Fresh bottle (just arrived in Colorado), best before Dec 2007. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow. Aroma is moderately hoppy (honeysuckle flowers, herbs), moderately malty (toasted bread, cookie), lightly yeasty (cobwebs). Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. You’ll probably think of a Czech pils while you’re sniffing this...I sure did. Lots of malt and hops (a ton o’ Hallertauer) in the nose...not a lot otherwise, but very juicy and pleasant.

this beer totally and utterly agreed with with me. Very nice floral oaky aroma, very nice tastewise. Very subtle and elegant, with a tremendously satisfying bitter finish, very savoury, an awesome brew, hooray!!

This has the taste and appearance of a good Bass Ale, a smooth, light-bodied, clear, lager-colored blond ale, a white head with a beautiful, fragrant bouquet that promises more than it delivers, a very mildly malted, delicate fruit taste, mild carbonation, nicely balanced, even eloquent, but the flavors are overly light, perhaps ideal to accompany meals or appetizers, but too mild to stand on it’s own.

Clear, golden with a tint of orange. Nice white head and lace. Light but fragrant nose of malt, honey, and floral notes. First thing I noticed in taste was flowers.( I get an image of flower petals floating along the top f my glass) Some yeast in the middle, very soft and subdued fruit flavors, just a few drops. There is some nice malt in there was well. Nothing really jumps out, its everything all at once. Very elegant, mouthfeel is amazing, very light but hugely flavorful. Just enough alcohol to provide a bit of warmth. Very elegant, classy, complex, and balanced. A damn fine ale.

I felt it was too thin, and lacked any real taste.
