2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 yalnikim (800) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 8, 2005
Tasted 03/08/2005. Stubbie from BrewNZ.
Pale, bright, gold with white, disappearing, head that ends up incredibly lacey. Low level of visible carbonation. Mild nose doesn’t inspire much; some grassiness and a touch of corn is about all I get. Good sweet/bitter balance for an international lager. Hop influence is also a bit spicey and prickly. Lingering bitter finish is tainted, a little, with a slight metallic element that I’m guessing the judges did’t get in their small servings (gold medal winner at BrewNZ). Quite drinkable but nothing special; german influenced but classed as an "Australiasian lager".

Bottle. Pale golden with a minimal white head. Malty and light fruit with underlying buttery notes. Not bad but probably should be served too cold to be enjoyed.

An ok beer to some fishdinner. Not that bad, but nothing special. Do not expect too much here in developland.

Bottle, Nha Trang, Vietnam. I actually liked this one. Standard light gold color with foamy white head. Has the typical asian lager grass and straw notes but this one had some apple juice flavor, not bitter at all, with a slightly dry finish. Better than expected.

Bottle @ Cafe Stop in Hanoi. Medium gold with frothy head. Alright grassy aroma smells bland but inoffensive. Nice level of carbonation, good palate. Flavors are on the sweet side, with mineral water finish. Not bad, not good,. Unexceptional swill.

33cl can several times in Vietnam. Pours light golden with a small white head. Light malty with hint of cooked vegetables and alcohol. Slightly better than the regular Larue. Quite sweet with a hint of dryness and bitterness in the finish. Still it goes down quite easy down here.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 voota (765) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 10, 2008
Pretty stock standard asian lager, perhaps a little rougher and thinner than the vietnamese standard. Very pale, small head, slight sulfur aroma and a bit of adjunct. Easy enough to drink and pretty light in the mouthful. A hint of saltiness and some light bread in the flavour, really light on the bitterness, stretches in the finish to a bit of twang. Pretty shithouse.

Bottle in Vietnam. Thin and fizzy. Almost flavourless, but at a stretch I’d say apple. Mild sweetness and a bland finish.
