Commercial Description:
"An "EinsundHälfteBock". According to us, more than a regular Bock and, according to those who have decided to put beers in tight, little categories, it is not quite strong enough to really be called a doppelbock. Brown beer of German inspiration. A 6% abv lager. A full-bodied personality with dominant and complex malt flavors and, oh!, a hop presence which is...um...not quite shy! We broke the style mold for the great pleasure of hop heads. This is Bièropholie!

Last batch brewed in december 2004 and bottled in january 2005. Next batch will be in january 2008.

Dark ruby red shining amber colour with light tan head. Notes of tobacco, smoke and chocolate in the nose - lightly sweet with a firm malty aroma. The body is lighlty smoked at the front immediately stirred into bittersweet chocolate. Very malty and pleasant, a bit spritzy but it dances on the tongue.

[bottle at a MontreAlers meeting] Bright ruby-brown with a very thin, white ring. Aroma is rich yet crisp with spicy malt and a significant amount of hops and strawberry/kiwi notes. The flavour is a nice, with cereal grains, but not as much as you would get from a barleywine. In the flavour you get a good amount of hops, but not a rediculous amount, plus chocolate, coffee, and watermelon notes. Just a tiny bit of unpleasant sourness in there also. Medium body with quite a bit of carbonation and a bit syrupy feel. Very good beer.

2005 bottle. Liquid smoke aroma with bitter chocolate. Very dark burgundy. Flavour is heavy on the bitter chocolate with smoke fruit notes. Sweet finish leaves a sugary residue.

(2005 Bottle, 341ml) Clear, blood red body topped by large beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, nutty, chocolate, raisin, vinous. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, raisin, chocolate, some nutty, vinous, herbal. Smooth, medium-full body. Maybe the alcohol does not fit the doppelbock category, but the rest of it sure does.

Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a huge dark head with average retention. Aroma of roasted malt, subtle banana with some mild chocolate. Taste is sweeter then expected but very enjoyable nonetheless. The mix between the sweetness, the banana and the roasted malt is great. Body is full and the only thing that didn’t please me as much as the rest was the molasses feel at the end. Anyway, another great beer from Biropholie.

Thanks to MartinT for this one. The color is a deep reddish brown w/ very little head. The aroma is sweet, caramelly, maybe even butterscotch. The flavor is sticky sweet, w/ a nice, dry clean finish. Very tasty.
